He is one of the most feared fighters in the world, but he hasn’t forgotten where he came from and the sacrifices that service members are making every day.
Randy Couture, the popular mixed martial arts fighter, will host a $330 poker tournament with $100 rebuys at the Golden Nugget casino on Saturday, Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Xtreme Couture G.I. Foundation, which raises “money and awareness for troops wounded in action and their families.”
Couture is an army veteran himself, having served in the 101st Airborne Division.
“Having spent time in a uniform, it became a personal goal of mine to find a way to give back to the brave men and women of our armed forces for the sacrifices they make defending our freedoms,” said Couture. “We hope you’ll come join us for a great night, and rub elbows with some of the best fighters and poker players on the planet, all in the name of our troops.”
The event, “Operation All In,” is now in its second year, and promises to welcome a number of familiar faces.
Todd Brunson, Lee Watkinson, Chip Jett, David Williams, Adam Schoenfeld, and Robert Williamson III are among the poker pros who are scheduled to attend. Also participating in the event will be several MMA fighters, including Couture, Dan Henderson, Stephan Bonnar, Frank Trigg, and Phil Baroni.
The tournament will give away a $10,000 seat to the Sports Legend Challenge, a poker tournament that takes place in the Bahamas this September. Several sports and poker stars — such as Troy Aikman, Kareem Abdul-Jabar, Reggie Jackson, Johnny Chan, Jamie Gold, and Annie Duke — will play in that decorated field in an event that will be televised on Fox Sports Net.
Besides the charity poker tournament at the Golden Nugget, Couture’s event will also feature live and silent auctions, with prizes that include a personal one-hour fighting lesson from the man himself.
Players can pre-register for the event by e-mailing [email protected], or can receive more information from Couture’s website, www.xtremecouturegifoundation.org.
