John JuandaThe third-annual World Series of Poker Europe will begin on Friday, Sept. 18. The first event will be a £1,000 no-limit hold’em (event No. 1), and it will begin at noon BST (4 a.m. PDT). There will be a total of four bracelet-events hosted at the London Clubs International, in Leicester Square in London, England, during the next two weeks. One small change on the schedule this year is that the £2,500 H.O.R.S.E. tournament has been replaced by a £2,500 pot-limit hold’em/pot-limit Omaha tournament for event No. 2. Event No. 3 will once again feature the popular £5,000 pot-limit Omaha tournament.

The £10,000 no-limit hold’em main event (event No. 4) begins on Saturday, Sept. 26, and the 2009 WSOP Europe will come to a conclusion when the main event crowns a champion on Oct. 1. Last year in the main event, John Juanda (pictured right) beat Stanislav Alekhin to win £868,800 in prize money at the end of a grueling final table that featured 484 hands of play over the course of more than 19 hours.

Another new feature at the 2009 WSOP Europe is the inaugural Caesars Cup, which is an invitation-only, team-based no-limit hold’em event that will pit professional players from the U.S. and Europe against one another. This event will take place on Friday, Sept. 25, and it begins at 10 a.m. BST (2 a.m. PDT). Team America currently consists of captain Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, John Juanda, Doyle Brunson, and Jennifer Harman. Team Europe currently consists of captain Annette Obrestad, Peter Eastgate, Dario Minieri, Bertrand Grospellier, Patrik Antonius, and Ilari Sahamies. The final two players on each team have yet to be announced.
