The legendary Stardust will soon be no more. Boyd Gaming, which owns the property, announced that it will spend $4 billion to redevelop the 63 acres the old casino sits on. Construction of Echelon Place will start in December and will be completed sometime in 2010.
The facelift will include 350,000 square feet of retail space, four individual hotels for a total of 5,300 rooms, and a new convention and exhibition center. The convention area will encompass 650,000 square feet and include 175,000 square feet of meeting and conference space.
The Stardust is one of the oldest hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. When it opened in 1955, it had the largest casino as well as largest swimming pool in all of Nevada. Siegfried and Roy got their start at the Stardust and Wayne Newton was a fixture there until last April.
