Police have shut down an illegal poker club in the south of Moscow city after raiding a restaurant and finding 15 people playing poker according to the Moscow Times.
The raid took place a number of weeks ago but police only made public details yesterday.
The poker room was hidden in a restaurant called the Golden River and entrance to the room – on the door of which hung a “Warehouse. No Entry.” sign – was covered by cameras and guards according to police spokesman Vladimir Konovalov.
Two poker tables were discovered but there was no other gaming tables in the building. No charges have yet been brought and police are trying to establish the owners of the club.
Russia recently closed down most of its casinos and poker clubs, which had previously been legal.
As a result the European Poker Tour had to move its tournament from Moscow to Kiev earlier this summer.
