PokerStars.com has taken its player rewards system to a new level with the introduction of its VIP Club, which gives players greater rewards based on the amount of time they play in real-money games or tournaments.

Frequent Player Points (FPPs) have always been the backbone to PokerStars.com's rewards program. Now, thanks to the newly created VIP Club, the more FPPs a player earns, the more points she has a chance to accumulate, and the more stuff she can purchase.

An FPP is earned by playing a hand in which the rake reaches at least 50¢ in fixed limit games with stakes at 50¢-$1 and lower, 75¢ in fixed-limit poker games with stakes $1-$2, and $1 in pot-limit, no-limit, and fixed-limit games with stakes $2-$4 and higher. Each $1 in tournament fees paid earns 5 FPPs.

The VIP Club is broken into five different levels: BronzeStar, SilverStar, GoldStar, PlatinumStar, and Supernova.

All players start at the BronzeStar level. Anyone with fewer than 1,500 FPP in one month is considered in the BronzeStar level. At this level, FPP are earned at a normal pace, and can be used to purchase entry into satellites or items from the FPP store.

If a player exceeds 1,500 FPP in one month, he will become a SilverStar VIP until the end of that month and all of the following month. He can retain his status, or move up a level, according to the number of FPP he earns during this time.

SilverStar VIPs receive the following membership perks: Players earn an extra half a FPP for each point they earn and SilverStar FPP store access, which includes items like an iPod Nano (16,000 FPP) and entry into the site's Sunday $750,000-guaranteed tournament (13,500 FPP).

SilverStar VIPs also can play in a weekly freeroll with a prize pool of $2,500. All VIPs SilverStar and above can play in this freeroll.

To make the jump to GoldStar level, players must earn 4,000 FPP in a month. A player remains a GoldStar VIP the entire month and all of the following month. She can retain her status, or move up a level, according to the number of FPP she earns during this time.

Perks include: For every FPP earned, GoldStar VIPs earn two and access to the GoldStar portion of the FPP store, where players can buy entries into head-to-head tournaments with any of the last three World Series of Poker main event winners for 15,000 FPP (as well as flat-screen TVs and other electronics).

GoldStar VIPs also can play in a weekly freeroll with a prize pool of $5,000. All VIPs GoldStar and above can play in this freeroll.

The PlatinumStar level is achieved by earning 10,000 FPP in a month. A player remains a PlatinumStar VIP the entire month and all of the following month. He can retain his status, or move up a level, according to the number of FPPs he earns during this time.

PlatinumStar VIPs earn FPPs one-and-a-half times faster than BronzeStar VIPs, and have access to all but the most exclusive parts of the FPP store. PlatinumStar VIPs can buy entry into many major live tournaments, including the WSOP $5,000 buy-in event (310,000 FPP).

PlatinumStar VIPs also can play in a weekly freeroll with a prize pool of $7,500. Supernova VIPs can also play in this freeroll.

According to PokerStars.com, Supernova VIPs represent only 1 percent of all its members. Once a member earns 100,000 FPP during the calendar year, he becomes a Supernova member.

Supernova status remains with the player for the rest of the year. For example, if a player achieves Supernova status by August, she remains at that level until Dec. 31.

Supernova members accumulate FPPs two-and-a-half times faster than BronzeStar VIPs and have the opportunity to buy in to the WSOP main event with FPP (the amount hasn't been set) or the European Poker Tour event in Monte Carlo (1 million FPP). Supernova VIPs can even buy a new Porsche Cayman S for 3 million FPP.

A $100,000 freeroll takes place once a month for GoldStar, PlatinumStar, and Supernova VIPs. SilverStar VIPs can win their way into the freeroll through FPP satellites that run through the month.
