PartyGaming confirmed on Friday it was in discussions with a number of companies regarding a merger.
The owner of PartyPoker and the World Poker Tour, which recently announced a partnership for online poker with Danish gaming monopoly Danske Spil, said in its statement, “Further to recent press speculation, the Board of PartyGaming Plc confirms that it is continuing to hold discussions with a number of companies in the gaming sector regarding potential consolidation opportunities. As all such discussions remain at a preliminary stage, there can be no certainty as to whether or not such discussions will result in any form of transaction with any party.”
Media speculation has suggested the company is in talks with rival Austrian betting giant bwin. The Guardian newspaper in the UK reported that bwin chairman Hannes Androsch told an Austrian magazine that, “Talks are going on but we don’t know yet whether they will succeed.”
PartyGaming has been active in the market recently, taking over the World Poker Tour, TonyGPoker, and Cashcade.
Bwin has also been on the takeover trail, snapping up Italy’s Gioco Digitale.
