Day 2 at the 2010 Aussie Millions has ended at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia. The $10,000 AUD no-limit hold’em tournament attracted 746 players overall and now just 80 remain in contention for the top prize worth $2 million AUD. Action played quick on day 2, almost 73 percent of the 294 players that began the day did not survive. The top 72 players will all walk away with at least $15,000 tomorrow so the money bubble will pop early. There are three more days left in the Aussie Millions main event, and a champion will be crowned at the final table on Saturday, Jan. 29. The notable survivors from day 2 include Gus Hansen, J.P. Kelly, Annette Obrestad, Barry Greenstein, Nasr El Nasr, and Van Marcus. The recent winner of the $100,000 challenge in Australia, Dan Shak (pictured above left), resides in the top 10 with 409,000 and Sorel Mizzi joins him with 360,000. With blinds at 1,500-3,000 with a 500 ante during the last level of the night two of the largest stacks in the tournament dueled in a big hand. Sorel Mizzi raised to 8,000 preflop on the button and Chad Wiedenhoeft reraised to 12,000 from the small blind. The flop was dealt A J 8 and Wiedenhoeft bet 13,000. Mizzi called.
The turn brought the J and both players checked. The river fell 5 and Wiedenhoeft bet 36,500. Mizzi made the call and Wiedenhoeft turned over the K. Mizzi turned over the A to win the hand and grow his stack to 360,000. Wiedenhoeft was knocked down to 480,000 after the hand.
