Laws introduced in Russia last year to restrict poker appear to have had a negative impact on a once thriving poker business in the region.
Poker Style, owner of a magazine promoting “luxury lifestyle,” the poker portal PokerStyle.ru, and originator of the Russian Poker Tour, is understood to owe significant amounts of money with at least one employee and one business partner contacting Card Player to express their opinions on this unfortunate turn of events.
The company has also lost its sponsor for the much-hyped Russian Poker Tour, however, the Kiev stop on the tour still appears to be going ahead in March.
The website PokerStyle.ru has not been active since mid-December, going offline entirely in early January for a period.
CEO of Poker Style Erik Shakhbazyan was contacted on several occasions requesting comments on the situation but did not respond to e-mail.
