Just for fun, the guys over at FullTiltPoker.com drew up odds on who will win the National Heads-Up Poker Championship, which will take place at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas this weekend.
The tournament has a $1.5 million prize pool.
Their favorite should surprise no one. Phil Ivey is listed at 35-to-1 to win the whole thing. Last year's winner, Phil Hellmuth, is listed at 45-to-1.
Johnny Chan, Chris Ferguson, Barry Greenstein, John Juanda and Daniel Negreanu are all listed at 40-to-1.
The National Heads-Up Poker Championship is in its second year. All but three of the 64 players were invited, and this year's field includes such big-names as Doyle and Todd Brunson (both 45-to-1), T.J. Cloutier (45-to-1), Freddy Deeb (50-to-1), Jennifer Harman (50-to-1), Greg Raymer (50-1), Scott Fischman (55-1), and David Williams (60-to-1).
The heads-up tournament is different from single and multi-table tournaments in that players have to win a series of head-to-head battles to survive.
A bracket, similar to the NCAA basketball tournament, is randomly drawn up and players sit at special two-seat poker tables and advance by winning the table. They repeat until they're either sitting in the stands or at the final table. When it gets down to two players, the champion is determined in a best-of-three match.
NBC is filming the tournament and will air 10 hours of coverage over six episodes on Sundays starting April 16.
