Poker.org is a hot commodity.Poker.org is now the sex.com of all dot org sites.

The Washington Post reported yesterday that National A-1 Advertising, an advertising and marketing agency based in Philadelphia, had sold the domain name poker.org for $1 million — easily the largest sum ever paid for a .org domain.

The buyer was PokerCompany.com, which identifies itself as “one of the leading groups for online gaming marketing, so-called super affiliates, who work with most of the major poker rooms, casinos, skill game and betting companies on the Internet to help them acquire customers.”

PokerCompany.com also runs craps.net, rakeback.org, and blackjack.org.

“Poker.org is an integral part of our growth strategy, and will provide great dividends now and into the future,” said a representative for PokerCompany.com.

Poker.org is currently being used as a page funneling people to PartyPoker.com.

Before this acquisition, the highest-sold .org domain name was engineering.org, sold for just under $200,000.

The purchase is being seen as a bit of a “game-changer” by domain name bloggers, as more respect and worth are seemingly now being played on non-dot-com addresses.

The largest dot-com purchase in history was for sex.com, going for an estimated $12 million-$15 million in cash and stocks.
