PokerStars announced today that the Latin American Poker Tour stop in Vina del Mar, Chile, has been canceled. The 2010 Chile festival of poker was scheduled to take place at the Vina del Mar Casino from March 19-23, 2010.
Vina del Mar is located just 175 miles north of the epicenter of the 8.8-magnitude earthquake that devastated the country on Feb. 27, 2010. The country is now focused on rescue and recovery efforts and the effects of the earthquake have necessitated the cancellation of the event.
In a press release that came out today, PokerStars offered “their thoughts and condolences to all of those affected by this tragic natural disaster.” The release also offered an apology to the players who had planned to attend the festival. PokerStars will refund the buy-ins and out-of-pocket expenses to all players who qualified or bought-in for the event.
