Online Poker -- Brian Townsend's Wild Ride

Townsend Down Nearly $2 Million in 2010

Brian TownsendDespite his brief red-pro status suspension, Brian Townsend had a pretty good year at the tables in 2009. This year, however, has been a nightmare for the player formerly known as “sbrugby”.

Townsend’s struggles have come mostly in the past three weeks of action. In late April, Townsend took on Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies and managed to lose $482,000 in a span of just 90 minutes. The two played 242 hands of $200-$400 pot-limit Omaha, meaning Townsend was losing roughly $2,000 on average for every hand he was dealt.

Just a few days ago, Townsend’s struggles continued, as he lost over $620,000 in various games across Full Tilt Poker. Some of his beneficiaries included Gus Hansen, David Oppenheim, and the aforementioned Sahamies.

All told, Townsend has had a rough go of it in pot-limit Omaha, losing just under $1 million on the year, but that’s nothing compared to the losses he has endured in H.O.R.S.E., where he has dropped just over $1.7 million.

Despite his struggles, Townsend hopes to follow in the footsteps of another pro who was down big just a few months ago. That of course was Patrik Antonius, who was down nearly $4 million, but has since made that all back and then some.

As far as the winners go, Tom “durrrr” Dwan is still the big man on campus, having won $2.8 million in pot-limit Omaha and just under $1 million in H.O.R.S.E. Unknown player “jungleman12” is the big winner in no-limit hold’em and is up a reported $1.7 million.
