“Well, we knocked the bastard off!” — Sir Edmund Hillary, first man to reach the summit of Mount Everest

PokerStars has always been an online site that has thrown its hat into many rings, so to speak. Besides running the world’s largest online poker site and sponsoring many successful live tours, they’ve been known to venture outside of the poker world from time to time in order to spread the word about the game we all love to play.

In addition to sponsoring sports stars and celebrities such as Boris Becker, Orel Hershiser, and Jason Alexander, PokerStars is now getting behind one of the most athletic feats in mankind’s history, climbing Mount Everest.

The site has announced that they will be sponsoring the ascent of Patagonian brothers Damien and Willie Benegas, who have agreed to play poker both along the way and even when they reach the summit, creating the highest elevation for a poker game ever played on land.

This Sunday, May 30, PokerStars will be hosting a $1.10 tournament at 18:00 ET. The winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the Everest base camp in the Himalayas to play poker with the Benegas brothers before they make their ascent.

The brothers are two of the most experienced climbers in the world and will be raising money for a foundation to keep Everest free of the litter that accumulates with each climber’s trip. PokerStars has already pledged $5,000 to the charity.

If you’d like to play in the tournament but don’t have a PokerStars account, click on the banner below. Card Player readers are eligible for a deposit bonus of up to $600.
