Phil Ivey is Fifth in Chips at the Final TablePhil Ivey was one of several who didn’t bother to enter the World Poker Tour Bellagio Cup VI until day 3, but he’s the only one of that bunch who played his way into Thursday’s final table.

The $10,000 buy-in main event kicked off Sunday with 243 entrants entering the Bellagio’s Fontana Lounge, but because the tournament allowed players to register through 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, the field expanded to 353 before registration closed.

Most of those who waited to enter the action on day 3 did not survive the day. Phil Hellmuth arrived in typical Hellmuth fashion — at the last possible moment with cameras circling him. But the “Poker Brat” was unable to last a full level and made an early exit.

Also entering and busting on day 3 were Daniel Negreanu, Tom Dwan, Chris Ferguson and Andy Bloch. Greg Mueller waited three days to enter the Bellagio Cup, and after two hands he was gone.

Not following in that pattern was Ivey, who chipped up through day 3 and day 4, earning a spot at his record-setting ninth WPT final table to play for the $875,150 first-place prize.

Joining Ivey will be Justin Smith, who made the final table in this same event last year. Both of them will be chasing chip leader John Caridad, who ended play with 5,120,000 after a long day that ended shortly before 5 a.m.

Here’s a Look at the final six and their chip counts:

Seat 1: Phil Ivey – 1,595,000
Seat 2: Justin Smith – 2,100,000
Seat 3: Rob Akery – 1,980,000
Seat 4: Eric Afriat – 620,000
Seat 5: Moritz Kranich – 2,715,000
Seat 6: John Caridad – 5,120,000

The final day begins at 4 p.m. on Thursday and Card Player will bring you a recap of the final table when a champion is crowned.
