Young Canadian Tops 401-Strong Field To Lift £50,000 at UKIPT Edinburgh

Nick Abou Risk, UKIPT Edinburgh winnerNicholas Abou Risk has won the PokerStars.com UK & Ireland Poker Tour Edinburgh beating 400 opponents to take down the £50,000 first prize and a £5,250 seat in the upcoming European Poker Tour London tournament.

The 25-year-old Canadian, who lives in Dublin, Ireland, started the final table yesterday as chip leader and was joined, for the first time in the _Tour_’s short-history, by two women and a former winner, Joeri Zandvliet.

Heads up play between Risk and Mantas Puidokas lasted just 20 minutes.The Lithuanian briefly took the lead but Risk battled back and won the last nine hands of the tournament s including flopping two pair with JClub Suit 6Spade Suit in the last hand which Puidokas could not overcome.

“I had a good feeling on that first day and was talking through a lot of hands with Liv Boeree,” said Risk. Realising that she had some respect for my game gave me a lot of confidence and I started stealing a lot more blinds.”

The final table payouts were:

4. Joeri Zandvliet (Netherlands) — £13,100

5. Richard Chadwick (UK) — £10,300

The tour next stops in Dublin, Ireland from September 9 to 12. The main event buy in is $500 + £50.
