Phil IveyWhile the high-stakes online cash games have been relatively quiet for stretches in the month of August, the past seven days to cap off the month have been fierce.

Phil Ivey started off August strong and ended it in impressive fashion. He was one of the biggest winners over the past four weeks — winning more than $2 million — thanks to an enormous hand this past week worth close to $500,000.

At $300-$600 six-max pot-limit Omaha on Full Tilt Poker, Tom “durrrr” Dwan raised to $1,800 from under the gun. Ivey was next to act, and he called. Cadillac1944 three-bet to $8,700 on the button, and it was folded to Dwan. He four-bet to $29,400, and Ivey five-bet to $98,400. Cadillac1944 decided to go all in for $120,000 total. Dwan called, and Ivey did, as well.

The flop came 10Club Suit 7Heart Suit 4Diamond Suit, and Dwan moved all in for about $58,000. Ivey called, having his opponent covered.

The hands were exposed:

Dwan: ASpade Suit 10Spade Suit QDiamond Suit JDiamond Suit
Ivey: AHeart Suit ADiamond Suit KSpade Suit 3Heart Suit
cadillac1944: KClub Suit KHeart Suit 9Diamond Suit 6Diamond Suit

Ivey was in the lead with his pair of aces. The 7Diamond Suit on the turn gave the eight-time bracelet winner different cards to dodge, as his opponents picked up flush draws. The 9Heart Suit on the river was safe for Ivey, and he raked in the $477,061 pot.

Gus Hansen

Another one of the biggest winners over the month of August, as well as this past week, was Daniel “jungleman12” Cates. Cates and Dwan began the second instalement of the Durrrr Challenge this past Friday.

Cates is up $692,400.50 after just 6,820 hands. Even though Dwan is already down significantly, he still had one of the best months in the online world.

The past seven days have been unkind to Gus Hansen. The poker pro went on a massive downswing in the $2,000-$4,000 Omaha eight-or-better games, losing nearly $500,000 to Ivey and Cole South.

Even though the past week for Hansen has been rough, the entire month of August was also brutal. He was one of the biggest losers in August, dropping more than $2 million in a variety of disciplines.
