Jason Fennell has won the HPT event in Quapaw, OK.US Army Staff Sergeant Jason Fennell has been deployed to Iraq on four different occasions, but he was in an entirely different fight this past weekend as he became the newest champion of the Heartland Poker Tour.

Fennell, of Chicago, took home $100,017 for his performance at the Downstream Casino Resort in Quapaw, OK.

Here’s a look at the final table results:

1. Jason Fennell — $100,017
2. Brian Kim — $46,219
3. Shane Carey — $27,731
4. Pete McBride — $21,569
5. Warren Sharp — $18,488
6. Jackman Hy — $15,406

Here’s how it played out:

Jackmen Hy arrived at the final table with a short stack and was unable to build momentum before his elimination in 6th place ($15,406).

Car salesman Warren Sharp had been the tournament’s chip leader at the start of day 2, but his tournament came to an end with a cruel river card. With his A-10 against college student Shane Carey’s K-10, a king on the river sent Sharp to the rail in 5th place ($18,488).

Missouri-native Pete McBride was the next to go, after he ran his A-5 into big slick. The high school basketball coach was more than happy to take home $21,659 for his 4th place finish.

The action narrowed to heads-up play after Carey got all in with A-4 against Fennell’s K-Q. A queen on the flop was enough to send Carey back to Missouri with a 3rd place finish and $27,731.

When the last six players took their seats at the final table, young Brian Kim held 66 percent of all the chips. While that chip advantage was enough to get him heads-up with Fennell, a missed flush draw ultimately sent him to the rail as the runner-up, earning $46,219.

Season six of the HPT rolls on at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, MN. from Oct. 9 – 17, where 2004 WSOP main event champion Greg Raymer will be playing in the main event.
