Europe’s largest poker tournament, the €180 + €20 buy-in Boylepoker.com International Poker Open is on its way to finding its final table with a surviving 122 players turning up for day 2 from an original starting field of 1,293 (day 1A and 1B combined).
The event only had to lose one player before hitting the money, with 121 players getting paid.
The number of players who attended the event is slightly down from last year’s record-setting 1,440. However, this could be due to the change in French law which meant Boylepoker had to exclude French residents during the qualifying period. Last year, there were more than 400 French players in the field.
This year’s total prize pool is €252,740 with €20,000 added by Boylepoker. The last player standing is due to receive €50,600.
Over the three days of play at the Regency Hotel in Dublin, Ireland, a mix of Internet qualifiers, local live regulars, Boylepoker pros, celebrities, and international legends came and went as play quickly picked up speed. Some of those spotted throughout the starting days included Liam Flood, Marty Smyth, Paul Marrow, Peter Murphy, Nicky Power, Paul Lucey, Andy Black, John O’Shea, Neil Channing, Dave O’Callaghan, Padraig Parkinson, Dermot Blaine, Ashley Hames, Martin Silke, “Mad” Marty Wilson, Reggie Corrigan, Cat O’Neill, Rob Taylor, Surinder Sunar, George McKeever, Jaye Renehan, Jan Molby, Jason Tompkins, and Jessie May.
Last year’s winner was German Markus Sippe. He received $62,250 for topping the record-breaking field. Check out Card Player tomorrow to find out who made it to the final table and who takes this year’s title.
