Big Hands:
No-Limit Hold’em: Gus Hansen Raises, Takes Pot
On a board of 877, Gus Hansen faced a bet of 1,150 from an opponent. After counting his chips and deliberating, Hansen raised an additional pink 5000 chip to 6,150 total. His opponent mucked his hand, and Hanson took the pot.
2-7 Triple Draw: Nick Schulman Vs. Hasan Habib
On the second draw of a hand in the deuce-to-seven triple draw round, Nick “The Takeover” Schulman drew two cards while his opponent, Hasan Habib, drew three. After receiving his new cards, Schulman bet and Habib called. The third round of drawing brought a new card each for Schulman and Habib. Schulman checked his option, Habib bet, and Schulman released his hand. The victory for Habib improved his stack, but he still remained at under 10,000 in chips. Schulman stood at over 15,000.
No-Limit Hold’em: Marcel Luske Check-Raises to Eliminate an Opponent
European sensation Marcel Luske raised to 1,100 in the no-limit hold’em round from middle position, and generated a call from his opponent in the cut-off. The two saw a flop of 543. Luske asked his opponent how much he had left and checked. His opponent bet 2,000 and Luske instantly check-raised all in. His opponent made the call with QQ, leaving Luske way out in front with KK. The 8 on the turn and 5 on the river failed to bring a queen, and Luske now has over 30,000 in chips.
No-Limit Hold’em: Gavin Smith Takes a Hit
After the player on the button limped, Gavin Smith checked his option from the big blind. The 852 flop caused Smith to be 800, which was called by his opponent. Gavin fired another 1,500 on the 2 turn which was again called. The A on the river was checked by Smith, and his opponent pushed a bet of 6,000 across the line. Gavin Smith instantly folded. Despite the hit, Smith remains one of the early tournament chip leaders.
Pot-Limit Omaha: Robert Williamson Makes a Laydown
Robert Williamson III limped from early position in the pot-limit Omaha round, generating a chain reaction of two other late position limpers. Scott Fischman completed from the small blind and Todd Brunson checked his option from the big blind. Fischman, Brunson, and Williamson checked the 663 flop, and the opponent next to act bet 1,000. All opponents folded, with the exception of Robert Williamson who made the call. On the 9 turn, Williamson checked and called a bet of 3,000 from his opponent. The 2 river made Williamson check a third time, and the aggressor fired a bet of 7,000. Williamson deliberated, but eventually released his hand. He left himself with around 20,000 in chips.
