Elie Payan – 3,640,000 Payan Takes the Lead, Loses, Takes It Back Right at the end of Level 25, Rafe Kibrit took the chip lead from Elie Payan after doubling up with J – 10 for a Broadway straight on an A- K- Q board. This hand gave Kibrit the lead with 3 million to Payan’s 1.8 million. Kibrit came back from the break and entered Level 26 with same aggression, chipping away at Payan’s stack and getting him to under 1 million before Payan doubled up to 1.7 million with two pair vs. a better two pair. Payan rode that momentum all the way back to the chip lead after getting it all in on a flop of 10 6 4. Payan: Q 7 5 2 Kibrit was ahead on the flop with top two pair, but Payan had a lot of live draws. The turn and river were the 3 and the 2, giving Payan a straight. Payan doubled up again this hand to about 3 million, essentially trading stacks with Kibrit who was left with about 1.8 million. Payan then began to push the big stack himself, chipping away at Kibrit and forcing the action once gain. Kibrit git it all in again soon enough with top pair against Payan’s overpair, but spiked two pair on the river to double up. This hand put both players almost dead even with 2.5 million each. Payan hit a backdoor flush a bit later and took a definitive lead once again, ending the level on top with about 3.6 million.
