Jett Flushed
Chip Jett, showing J655, raised the river bet of Stefan Rapp, who had a pair of tens to go along with KQ. Rapp thought for a long time before finally calling the 1,600. "Flush," announced Jett, flipping over K95. "You raised me with a flush?" fumed Rapp, who turned over the A and Q for queens up with a busted royal flush draw. Jett's up to nearly 50,000.
The Master Takes On The Sugar Bear
Al: 5649
Men: 8J53
After Men Nguyen led out on fifth street and Barbieri called, both players checked it down. "I got a jack with a spade flush draw without looking at the last card," said Men, who turned up...the J to make trip jacks. Barbieri mucked his hand.
The next hand Men raised to 1,600 with the 8 after an early position player completed and Barbieri three-bet to 2,400 with the 6. The action folded around to Men, who called.
Al: 8KJ2
Men: 6J610
Men led out on fourth street and Barbieri called; Barbieri led out on fifth street after he paired his six and Men called; then Men bet again after Barbieri checked to him; and both players checked the end. Barbieri showed the 6 for trip sixes and Men mucked.
After their little dance, Men was at about 18,000, and Barbieri 22,000.
Buss Dunked By Kobie
Jerry Buss was eliminated after he paired his king on sixth street but never improved against Kobie West's wired aces.
"It's ironic, isn't it," mused West after the hand. "Buss knocked out by Kobe."
Filippi In Blind
Amnon Filippi was doing an admirable job of hanging on the entire day, short stacked and clearly card dead, when he finally decided it was time to put his money in. Down to 700 and dealt the bring-in 3, Filippi decided to move his last chips in blind. He was called by the seat 1 player with the 5, and Men Nguyen raised to 1,600 with the 6 showing. Seat 1 called, but got out of the way a few streets later.
Filippi: 39104
Nguyen: 6A95
Originally all Men had was a pair of sixes, but he paired his nine on the end to give him nines up. Filippi turned up Q4 in the hole, giving him a ten or queen out to make him a higher two pair, but the J did not help his cause, and Filippi was eliminated in 59th place.
