Blinds: 400-800, 100 ante
Eliminations:
Matt Hawrilenko
Big Hands and Storylines:
Matt Hawrilenko Eliminated
Action folded around to Ross Smith who raised it up from the button. Matt Hawrilenko, who had about 23,000 to start, 3-bet from the small blind. After a bit of thought, Smith, having Hawrilenko covered, moved all-in. Hawrilenko quickly called and the two showed their hands:
Smith: A Q
Hawrilenko: A K
The flop was a dire one for Smith: 10 7 4 . The turn 4 paired the board and now Smith had extra outs for a split-pot. He wouldn’t need those outs, however, as the river was the Q , giving him the entire pot and eliminating Hawrilenko.
Cunningham Wins a Vital Pot
Allen Cunningham raised pre-flop and was called by a single player in the big blind. On a flop of 8 2 2 , the big blind led out for 3,100 and Cunningham smooth called. The turn was the J and it was checked to Cunningham who bet 5,000. The opponent called and the two saw the 3 on the river. Again it checked over to Cunningham. This time Cunningham bet 10,000, leaving himself only a couple thousand behind. His opponent folded, however, and this brought Cunningham up to about 3,500.
Rasmussen Report
Action folded around to the button who raised. The only caller was Thayer Rasmussen in the big blind. On a flop of 9 8 4 , both players checked. Rasmussen checked the 10 on the turn and then called when the button bet 2,300. The 3 came on the river and, again, both players checked. At showdown, Rasmussen showed A 10 for top pair top kicker, and took down the pot. Rasmussen now has about 65,000.
Binger Survives All-in
Michael Binger continues to hold on by a thread, but it’s been enough to this point. The flop came A 10 3 , and after the board paired with the 3 on the turn, Binger moved all-in for his final 6600. Binger had been under the gun to begin the hand, and the lone remaining player was to his immediate left. But the player, with about 30,000, elected to muck his pocket queens and Binger was able to move up to 20,000 in chips.
Goldstein Also Hanging On
Ken Goldstein also is nursing a shortstack. He was able to see a cheap flop from the small blind when three players limped and the big blind checked. But after a flop of A 7 3 , Goldstein and the big blind checked, a player in middle position bet 2500, and the rest of the table folded.
Evdakov Looks to Pad Record
Nikolay Evdakov has already cashed in 10 events of this World Series of Poker, a new record for the WSOP. He continues to hang tough in the main event, having just added another pot. Evdakov was in the big blind and called a raise of 2500 from the button. The flop came K J J , and after Evdakov checked, the button came out for 3000. Evdakov made the call. The board double-paired on the turn with the K appearing, and both players checked. The 7 was the river card, and Evdakov stepped out for 5000. He was called, and showed K 7 for the turned full house. His opponent mucked.
Singer Singed
The flop came down K 5 3 after a preflop raise, and now the small blind bet 6000. David Singer, one from the cut-off, made the call. The 5 paired the board on the turn and the small blind bet 15000. Singer again made the call. The J was the river card and both players checked. Small blind showed K Q to take down the pot, while Singer slipped to 125,000 in chips.

Robert Mizrachi raised from early position and was met by a re-raise from Phil Ivey on the button. Mizrachi called and the two saw a A K 7 flop. Mizrachi check-raised Ivey’s continuation bet and Ivey made the call. Mizrachi bet 4,000 on the 7 turn and Ivey made a quick call. The river was the 6 . Mizrachi checked and Ivey bet. Mizrachi mulled it over his decision for a minute or so before announcing a call. Ivey turned over A J . His pair of aces was good enough to take down the pot and grow his stack to 130,000. Chipping Up Off The Old Bloch
Hawrilenko: 8 5 J A
Bloch: 4 2 10 9
Matt “Hoss_TBF” Hawrilenko completed with the 8 and was raised by Andy Bloch on his left. Johnny Chan and Mike Wattel both called, as did Hawrilenko, and the 4 each drew a fourth card. Hawrilenko caught a 5 , Bloch a 2 , Chan a J , and Wattel the K . Bloch led out with his 4-low, Chan and Wattel called, but Hawrilenko put in a raise and then Bloch 3-bet, squeezing Chan and Wattel out of the pot, much to their consternation. On 5th street, Bloch bet and Hawrilenko called. The tables turned on 6th street and Bloch check-called a bet from Hawrilenko. Both players checked the river and Hawrilenko’s (A-6-4) gave him an 8-low. Bloch briefly showed (9-7-3) and mucked his 9-low. With the pot Hawrilenko moved up to 90,000.

David Grey Eliminated
Andy Bloch completed with the T and was raised by David Grey with the Q up. Grey admitted that, with about 13,000 chips to start the hand, he was almost certainly going to end up all-in on the hand. That is indeed what ended up happening, with he and Bloch all-in on 6th street:
Grey: (Q )(6 )Q 4 7 8
Bloch: (K )(J )10 2 5 A
Grey’s pair of queens was ahead of Bloch going to the final card, but Bloch had a slew of outs: any diamond, ace, king, or queen would give him the lead in the hand. Bloch flipped over his final card like it was hot: Q . Grey could only laugh as Bloch made a straight with the card that he so desperately needed.
Bloch now has an impressive 180,000 chips.

Gus’ Flush Trips Up Kravchenko
With boards of:
Hansen: 8 3 5 5
Kravchenko: 7 6 K K
Hansen was the aggressor on all streets, betting when checked to and leading out when acting first. On 7th street, Kravchenko timidly check-called Hansen’s river bet and was not happy to see Gus table (Q )(J )(7 ) for a flush. Kravchenko could not produce a low and the pot was shipped to the Dane. Hansen now has 60,000.

Good News...
Matt Hawrilenko raised from the button and the big blind called. The big blind check-raised the K T 5 flop and, after Hawrilenko called, the two saw the 4 turn. The big blind bet and Hawrilenko raised all-in for 700 more. The big-blind begrudgingly called with A 7 and was drawing dead against Hawrilenko’s A T . Hawrilenko’s double up had him up to 16,000 until...
Bad News...
Hawrilenko opened for a raise in the big blind and Greg Alston 3-bet him from the big blind. Hawrilenko called and the flop came out T 6 2 . Hawrilenko check-called and then check-called again on the A turn. The river was the Q and Hawrilenko checked again. Again Alston bet out but this time Hawrilenko raised him. Alston just called and the two turned over their hands:
Hawrilenko: A Q
Alston: Q Q
Hawrilenko dropped all the way back down to 9,000 while Greg Alston is now sitting pretty at 68,000.
They Can Dodge Bullets(...Baby)
Phill Hellmuth, nursing a short-stack of less than 10,000, raised from early position. The table quickly folded around and Hellmuth bellowed, “Gosh dang!” while tossing his pocket aces in plain sight of all.
A Lerning Experience
Derek Lerner raised from the cutoff and Daniel Negreanu called from the big blind. Both players checked the 8 3 3 flop. Negreanu then bet out on the 6 turn, eliciting a quick call from Lerner. After Negreanu bet the Q river, he admitted to Lerner that the queen didn’t hit him. Lerner considered all his options before making the call. Negreanu showed 8 4 to take down the pot. Negreanu’s stack of 29,000 is only slightly bigger than Lerner’s 27,000.

Big Hands and Storylines:
Negreanu’s Ascent Continues
Daniel Negreanu started the day 4th in chips but has quickly risen to become chip leader. In the first hand, Negreanu, from the small blind, called Lee Nelson’s pre-flop raise. On a J 9 7 flop, Negreanu check-raised Nelson, who decided to call and see the turn. Negreanu bet out at the 8 turn, garnering another call from Nelson. The river brought the 8 and Negreanu fired another barrel. Nelson had had enough though, and folded quickly. Nelson was left with only 10,000 after the hand.
Only a few hands later Negreanu’s luck would continue. An Tran raised under-the-gun and was met with a three-bet from Negreanu on the button. Tran called and the pair saw a Q J J flop. Negreanu was checked to and forced Tran out of the pot with a bet. “Two tens, boss,” stated Negreanu, who confirmed his statement by tossing his cards in face-up. Negreanu has chipped up to about 50,000 after today’s first round of play.
Don’t Mess with Matros
Matt Matros opened the betting with a raise from the cutoff and was quickly met with a re-raise from Jed Dickerson on the button. Matros called the bet and checked a Q 7 6 flop. After Dickerson made a continuation bet, Matros raised him, causing Dickerson to lay down his hand. After this hand Matros’ stack was boosted to a hearty 28,000. Dickerson is languishing with only 12,000.
Mike Patrick Doubles off Hawrilenko
Shortstack Mike Patrick raised to 1,200 from middle position and got one caller in Matt Hawrilenko from the small blind. Hawrilenko check-called the 7 5 4 flop. He checked again on the J turn, and after Patrick had bet, asked to see how much he had left. Patrick lifted his hands to reveal a paltry 700 left behind. Hawrilenko tossed in his chips to make the call. The river was the 8 and Hawrilenko again checked. Patrick put in his final chips and Hawrilenko shook his head and folded. Hawrilenko is now left with 11,000 in chips while Patrick was able to double his stack to about 7,000.
