Big Hands:

Peter Jetten Cracks Aces to Double Through Isaac Baron

After a Van Marcus limp, Peter Jetten raised to 54,000. The action folded around to Baron who made it 197,000 to go. Both blinds and Van Marcus’ cards went into the muck and the action was back to Jetten, who proceeded to go into the tank.

After a couple minutes of thinking, Jetten announced “all in” and Baron made the call instantly. Baron turned over AA92 and Jetten had AK105. The flop was 4J7, leaving Jetten in bad shape.

The turn was the 3, giving Jetten some hope, and the river completed Jetten’s flush as the 10 fell and Jetten was able to double up.

Evan Sofer Eliminated

After Richard Austin limped in, Evan Sofer made a pot-sized raise. After everybody else got out of the way, Austin raised enough to put Sofer all in. Sofer made the call and showed KJ109 and Austin showed AA87.

Unlike Jetten, Sofer was unable to crack aces, as he was drawing dead to the river and was eliminated in 13th place. He will take home $24,448 for his efforts.

River of Life

Birinder Nijran was one of three players to see the flop for 19,000, with the board coming out Q95. Nijran moved all-in for 44,500 and both David Benyamine and Phil Galfond made the calls. The 10 was the turn card and after Benyamine checked Galfond bet 40,000. Benyamine called and the river came 10 to pair the board. Both players checked and Galfond showed KJ98. He had turned the straight and held the flush draw. But the river kept Nijran alive, as he had flopped a set of queens while holding AQQ10. The full house kept Nijran alive and the field remained at 20, two away from the money.

Elezra Draws Call, and Fold

John Juanda raised to 19,000 preflop, then Eli Elezra in the big blind reraised to 63,000. The flop came 1072 and Elezra quickly moved all-in. Juanda folded and Elezra showed double-suited aces with AAJ8.

Chan Wins Big, Chan Wins Small

Johnny Chan was in the big blind and was one of five players to limp to see the flop come 733. Evan Sofer in the small blind bet 20,000, Chan called, and three other players folded. The turn brought the 5, Sofer bet 40,000 and Chan smooth-called again. The K fell on the river and Sofer checked. Chan bet 70,000 and drew a call. Chan rolled over 9776 for the flopped full house and took the pot down.
A few hands later, Chan was in the small blind and called a bet of 15,000 by Kirill Gerasimov after the the flop came QJ5. The 6 came on the turn, Gerasimov checked, and Chan bet 48,000 which was enough to take the pot.

Daniel Negreanu lost a monster pot for half his stack to Emmanuel Sebag early in the level, then lost another 100,000 to Elezra a few hands later. Negreanu is now below 150,000 in chips.
