Mark Stephen Edwards Leads Day 1A

Mark Stephen Edwards bagged the largest stack of the night on Day 1A of the Card Player Poker Tour St. Maarten inaugural $1,650 no-limit hold’em $200,000 guarantee main event.
Edwards bagged 164,400 followed by Adam Friedman with 161,900 and Andrew Fair with 139,800.
The first of two starting days drew a total of 64 entries including Card Player’s own Barry Shulman, Mark Gregorich, former CPPT bestbet Jacksonville final tablist Yi Li and Carbon Poker online qualifiers Cole Macy, Andy Asnicar and Duane Mispagle.
Card Player’s Allyn Shulman, the only former CPPT main event champion in the field and the tour’s all-time money winner, survived Day 1A with 72,000.
Day 1B will begin Friday at 1:30 pm local time and live updates will be provided throughout the day on CardPlayer.com.

The turn paired the board with the 5 to lock up the pot for Edwards. The 7on the river was ultimately meaningless as the huge pot was shipped to Edwards, who now sits with over 100,000.

The flop brought the 763 and the big blind checked to Edwards, who bet 5,100 into the side pot. The big blind called and the 7 hit the turn. Both players checked and the river brought the 8.
The big blind checked to Edwards who bet 9,025 which was roughly half his stack. After plenty of thought the big blind made the call, only to muck after Edwards showed him the 88 for eights full.
The all-in player showed his J10 and was sent to the rail while Edwards raked in the pot to increase his stack to around 50,000.

From under the gun Barry Shulman limped in for 300 and Mark Stephen Edwards made the call as well. The player in the cutoff made it 1,500 to go and Shulman called, only to have Edwards move all-in.
The player in the cutoff and Shulman both folded and Edwards took down the pot preflop without a showdown.

Edwards showed pocket nines and Janssen tabled AK. Edwards stayed ahead after a flop of J87. The 10 on the turn gave Edwards a straight but the Q on the river completed a higher straight for Janssen and Edwards was eliminated.
