Round 2 - No Sharks Harmed
Jun 20, '08
Blinds: 50-100
Eliminations: Nam Le, Jennifer Tilly
Big Hands:
No Sharks Were Harmed in the Doubling of His Chips
Swedish poker star Jonas "nebuchad" Danielsson has cashed three times already in this year's WSOP, but number four might not be coming anytime soon because he just lost most of his chips while doubling up Humbero Brenes.
On a flop of 975, Brenes bet 600, only to have Danielsson essentially raise him all in. Brenes pushed his remaining 2,550 in chips in and showed JJ. Danielsson had several outs, holding A4. However the Q turn and 2 river didn't connect with Danielsson's hand and Brenes doubled to around 6,000.
Nam Le Falls to Aces
Nam Le's short stack of 475 got all in and was called by an opponent with AA. Le showed 66. The board ran KQ439 and Le was gone.
Watkinson's Cowboys Ride One Off Into the Sunset
On a board of Q75, Lee Watkinson fired a bet of 1,500 and the player in seat 6 made the call. The turn was the 9 and Watkinson moved all in. After a couple of moments of thought, his opponent made the call and Watkinson showed KK. His opponent nodded his head, saying; "That's what I put you on," and turned over AQ. The river was the 3 and Watkinson sent his opponent to the rail and improved his stack to about 13,000.
The Razor's Edge
John "Razor" Phan raised to 300 from under the gun. The action folded around to the button in seat 6 who made the call. The flop came QQ10. Phan led out with 500 and his opponent called again. The turn was the 5 and Phan decided to check. His opponent took the bait as he put 1,150 into the middle. Phan pounced and tipped over his chip stacks. They splashed into the pot as Phan moved all in. His opponent thought for a bit, then mucked. Phan was around 8,000 in chips.
Aguiar Down Early
In a battle of the blinds, the small blind led out on the turn of a Q865 board for 425 and Jonothan Aguiar on the big blind quickly called. The river was a third spade, the 10, and the small blind checked to Aguiar, who bet out 1,500. The small blind called grudgingly, and Aguiar looked somewhat chagrined as he turned over 77 for one pair. The small blind had rivered a second pair with 108. Aguiar's down to about 2,100.
Binger Eats Pieces of Flop Like You For Breakfast
Michael Binger has just sat down, adding some more firepower to a table that already includes Bert Boutin, Scott Seiver, and Thomas Wahlroos. He was involved almost immediately, calling from the small blind an under the gun player's raise to 300. Binger checked a flop of J85 and the original raiser bet 600. Binger then attempted to raise all in for 2,550 total, until the dealer reminded him that he could only raise the size of the pot, to 1,950 total. "Oh, I forgot it was pot limit," said Binger. The original raiser obliged by putting him all in and he called. Binger turned out to be playing a red pair of aces rather sneakily, and was ahead of his opponent's J10. The turn and river blanked and Binger doubled up to about 5,500.
