Joel Merwick fell during the course of two hands. In the first, Brian McKain bet 60,000 on a J J 10 flop and Merwick raised to 165,000. McKain reraised all in and Merwick pondered an all-in call. He mucked and left himself with a little more than 200,000.
A few hands later he got the last of his chips into the middle with pocket nines and Charles Moore held pocket jacks. Merwick hit a nine on the flop, but Moore spiked a jack on the river of a 9 8 4 7 J board to send him home in ninth place. He was awarded $9,163 in prize money.
