After taking a risk and quitting school at the University of Missouri, Tony Rivera moved to Las Vegas to play poker professionally. He didn't have to wait long for assurance he'd made the right decision.
At the 2008 WSOP, Rivera not only made his first cash, but he also won his first bracelet in the first-ever $10,000 buy-in mixed games World Championship. The event attracted just 192 entrants, since it included no-limit hold'em, pot-limit Omaha, triple-draw lowball, limit hold'em, Omaha eight-or-better, razz, seven-card stud, and seven-card stud eight-or-better. Rivera plays only occasionally in major tournaments, and spends most of his time playing high-stakes cash games.
