Day 1C has more players in contention than Day 1A and 1B combined with 2,181 players. WSOP staff has also confirmed that more players than that are already registered for tomorrow. This puts the current number of players in the main event at 4,056.
Chris Moneymaker Eliminated
The flop read J 10 9 when Chris Moneymaker got the last of chips (About 10,000) into the middle against Carl Carlson. Their cards:
Moneymaker: 3 – 3
Carlson: 10 10
Turn and River: 5 and K
Moneymaker was eliminated on the hand and Carlson grew his stack to 40,000.
Bard Garrett Loses One
Middle position raised preflop and Brad Garrett made the call preflop. The first three cards to hit the table were A A 10 and both players checked.
The turn fell Q and middle position bet 1,600. Garrett raised to 3,600 and his opponent made the call. The river fell 6 and middle position bet 5,000. Garrett made the call and he thought he was good with K-J for a Broadway straight, but his opponent revealed pocket tens.
Garrett made an anguished but good-natured display over his misfortune in the hand. He still holds close to 50,000.

Paul Pierce Takes a Pot
The board read A 7 2 4 10 when one player bet 1,300 before NBA player Paul Pierce. He made the call and flipped over A 9, which was enough to top the K J of his opponent. Pierce held 47,000 after the hand.
Mark Newhouse on the Rise
On a board that read K Q J 2 Mark Newhouse bet 14,000 and Massimiliano Martinez made the call. The river fell 9 and Newhouse then moved all in for 33,000. Martinez made the call and he had Newhouse covered.
Newhouse turned over Q Q and he doubled up on the hand just before the dinner break to 88,000. Martinez fell to 55,000 after the hand.
