Big Hands:
"Mikey! Mikey! Mikey!" Chants Fill The Area, Matusow Doubles
Facing a raise to 75,000 from Sean Davis, Mike Matusow pushed all in for 545,000. Action folded back to Davis who made the call. Matusow showed 105 and said, "I found the ten-five, ladies and gentleman." Davis showed AK and was the favorite in the hand, but certainly not among the railbirds. The flop brought J75, giving Matusow a pair to take the lead. "Mikey! Mikey! Mikey!" chants filled the area as the 8 hit on the turn. They continued as the 6 hit on the river, giving Matusow the pot to double up to around 1,100,000 in chips.
Shortly after the big hand, Phil Hellmuth joined Matusow at the feature table. Can't wait for that ESPN broadcast.
Gould Climbs Leaderboard, Taylor Gone in 91st Place ($51,467)
Tim Taylor raised to 60,000 from late position, only to have Alan Gould reraise to 210,000 from the big blind. Taylor moved all in for 731,000 and Gould made the call. Taylor showed a big hand AK but was in a race situation against Gould's big hand - QQ. The flop came KQ5, pairing Taylor but giving Gould top set. Taylor needed running cards to win the hand but the 9 turn left him drawing dead, and the 5 hit on the river. Taylor was eliminated and Gould chipped up to around 2,300,000.
Kostritsyn Rivered, Takes Big Hit
Moscow's Alexander Kostritsyn, winner of the 2008 Aussie Millions, bet 250,000 when action was checked to him on a board of A629. Judet Cristian check-raised to 575,000 and Kostritsyn moved all in for 906,000. Cristian called and showed A9 for top two pair and the flush draw. Kostritsyn showed 22 for a set of deuces and was in the lead. But the 8 on the river gave Cristian the flush and the pot. Kostritsyn dropped to 820,000 after the hand, while Cristian doubled to nearly 3,000,000.
Kunbuz Flops Set, Busts Papola in 90th Place ($64,333)
After reraising Jamal Kunbuz preflop, Jeffrey Papola moved all in on a flop of KQ3 and was called by Kunbuz. Papola showed JJ but was in bad shape against Kunbuz's QQ, giving him a flopped set. The turn brought the A, making Papola's only out a 10 for a straight. But the 4 completed the board and Papola was eliminated. Kunbuz had around 3,700,000 after the hand.
Legendary
On a board of Q93, Jason Riesenberg fired a bet of 60,000 and Tommy "Legend" Le fired 120,000 and Riesenberg agonized his move. "I fold you show me?" Riesenberg asked. "Legend" agreed to the terms and Riesenberg announced that he was folding. "Legend" then showed QJ and Riesenberg lost it. "God%*#@ it!" Riesenberg shouted as he turned over his dead AQ. "Legend" took the pot and was around 1 million in chips.
Ketteringham Busts Barbero, Takes Chip Lead
Jose Barbero moved all in preflop and Mark Ketteringham made the call. Barbero was racing with his AQ against Ketteringham's 99. Barbero took the lead when the flop came A4K. The turn brought the 5 and Barbero was one card away from doubling up. Instead, the 9 showed up on the river to spoil Barbero's double up party as it gave Ketteringham a set and sent Barbero to the rail. Ketteringham took the chip lead as he stood with a little over 5 million in chips.
