$1,500 Limit Hold'em - Level 7
Jun 06, '08
Blinds: 200/400
Players Left: 250 of 880
Chip Leaders:
Jason Maeroff - 28,000
David Vassalli - 18,000
Michael Craig - 15,300
Marcel Luske - 14,800
Benjamin Fineman - 11,300
Terrence Chan - 10,000
Tom Schneider - 10,000
Anthony Licastro - 9,800
Erick Lindgren - 9,800
Van Marcus - 9,600
Average Stack: 10,564
Eliminations: Chris Ferguson, Humberto Brenes, J.C. Tran, Shannon Elizabeth, J.R. Bellande
Big Hands:
The Flying Dutchman
It was a wild ride for Marcel Luske as level 7 got underway. Moved to a new table, and to the right of another large chip stack in Terrance Chan, it didn't take long for the fireworks. The initial damage came when the players raised and reraised each other on a board of A97T5. Luske bet the river for 800, and was raised to 1,600 before showing the AK. Chan rolled over the 1010 for a set he hit on the turn.
Luske then took up the battle on the next hand, when three players saw the flop of 875 for 1,600 each. The small blind bet 200 all-in, one player called, Luske raised to 600, was check-raised to 1,000, added his own check-raise, and then betting was capped for the 3 on the turn. The turn produced a pair of 800 bets, as did the river when the 10 hit. Luske showed QQ, beaten by the KK.
Now down to 2,500, Luske raised the next hand and drew a call from the cutoff. The board came 886, both players committed another 400, the 5 produced two 800 bets, and the 6 produced another 1,600 in chips. Luske climbed back into play with the 96 to scoop the pot.
Ferguson Finally Succumbs
He held on for a while, but a short-stacked Chris Ferguson finally ran out of time. Beginning the level with 700 in chips, he went all-in on the first hand after Michael Craig had initially raised to thin the field. Ferguson showed Q10 while Craig held AJ. The flop of Q63 put Ferguson in the lead and he held on through a turn of the 5 and river of the 4.
The next hand Ferguson was on the button and raised to 800, drawing a call from the big blind. The flop came J22, and Ferguson called a 400 bet. After the 10 on the turn, Ferguson was all-in for another 200. The 10 was the river card, Ferguson showed Q3, and fell victim to the K6, king-high enough to take the pot down.
Hansu Chu Making a Move
After a strong showing in the $2,000 No Limit event earlier in the week, Chu is among the leaders tonight. Playing from the big blind, Chu responded to a raise from the button with a re-raise to 1,200. After the call, the flop came J107. Chu bet 400 and was called, and the 8 on the turn was checked by both players. With the 3 on the river Chu bet another 800 and was called. He claimed the pot with the K10 for second pair.
In Addition...
Two big stacks took tumbles, Daniel Negreau falling back to 2,500 in chips, while J.R. Bellande, who began the level with 10,900, was eliminated before the level ended.

Chu Chows Down
Hansu Chu had a decision to make. With over 30,000 in the pot, he was check-raised by an opponent who went all-in after a flop of K64. It was another 9,250 for Chu to call, which was almost half of his remaining chips. Chu agonized long enough that a third party requested the clock. Chu took just a few more seconds to send his chips forward, noting how his opponent had moved all-in without seeming to give it any thought. True enough, the player showed 53 for the open-ended straight draw, while Chu held KJ for top pair. The 10 on the turn gave the all-in player a flush possibility as well, but the 8 on the river sent the 49,000 pot Chu's way.
Paulsen Wins Monster with Cowboys
A flop of 763 gave Kai Danilo Paulsen and his opponent the help they needed. Both players sent their chips into the middle, 24,000 from Paulsen and a 22,000 call from his opponent, creating a 55,000 pot. Paulsen was banking on his KK holding up, while his opponent held the AK for the nut flush draw and an overcard. The J came on the turn and 4 fell on the river as Paulsen joined the chip leaders.
Hennette Wins Without Showdown
Sean Hennette ran the gauntlet to capture a 20,000 pot early in the level. After two limpers joined the pot for 600, Hennette raised from late position to 1,500 and earned a pair of calls. The flop came A104, and after two checks, Hennette bet 1,500, only to have the player who limped from under the gun check-raise to 3,800. Hennette called. The turn brought the 9, and the first player checked again. Hennette bet 3,000, and this time earned a call. The river brought the 9, and another check came from the player under the gun. Hennette bet another 3,000, and completed the trifecta -- a check raise, a check-call, and a check-fold.
Eights Are Wild
Brian Saltus wasn't expecting, or even wanting, a call. From the cut-off he raised all-in for 6,575, attempting to steal the blinds. The big blind woke up with AQ however, and called half his stack for the showdown. Saltus held A8, but hit a flop of 864. The turn brought the 6, then Saltus made a full house with the 8 on the river.
Klein Dodges Paint
In the first hand of the level, three players were still missing from Bill Klein's table. The odds of taking the 750 worth of antes and 1500 in blinds and one limper seemed appropiate for his 4,875 push from the cutoff with 44. The under the gun player held firm however, and called with KJ. The flop came 1072, and the Q on the turn gave his opponent open-ended possibilities as well. But a harmless 10 on the river allowed Klein to double up.

Chu Uses the Force
Leif Force was all in against Hansu Chu. Force had A-K against Chu's 65. With two hearts and a Q- J on the board, the river came the 10, making a broadway straight for force, but also giving Chu the winning flush.
"Neverwin" Wins
Under the gun, Dustin "Neverwin" Woolf raised to 3,800. The action folded around to Eric Liu in the big blind who made the call. The flop came A87. After Liu checked, Woolf fired out another bet and Liu quickly threw his hand into the muck. Woolf had around 43,000 at that point.
Theo Tran Adds to his Lead

Many players, including Shannon Shorr, had to be told to remove their headphones. Players are not allowed to listen to music once the field has reached the money. An announcement was made in the Amazon Room and the next infraction by any player will result in a one round penalty.

Jun 05, '07

One More Table To Go
Jun 05, '07
The field has gone from 910 all the way down to 16. There was a brief break in the action as tournament officials condensed the players down to two tables when there were 18 remaining. Following the re-draw Jesse Martin, David Sklansky and Hansu Chu (second in chips) are all seated at the same table. Our current chip leader is Brandon Wong with $370,000 and following in a close second is Hansu Chu with $330,000. The average chip stack at this point is $170,437.
Play has tightened since the last level as the idea of making a World Series of Poker final table is starting to become more realistic. David Sklansky was in the small blind and gave Hansu Chu a walk, to which Chu said to the table, "this is the hand I'm supposed to double up with!". Chu folded aces face up and Sklansky nodded his head in understanding.
Chu may actually be the only player who isn't tightening up, he has been involved in a majority of the pots at his table. Casey Peters was all in after the flop and the money was right for Chu who made the call with A J . Peters had 6 6 and was amazed when they held up. As he collected his chips after doubling up Peters asked Chu, "Can we do that again? That really wasn't that much." Peters battled from $18,000 all the way up to $110,000 this level before taking a few hits and dropping back down to $30,000. A few hands later Peters and Chu continued to battle but this time the big stack reigned supreme. Peters raised and Chu re-raised, putting Peters all in. Peters made the call and turned over A 2 . Chu was holding J J . The flop came K 6 2 , giving Peters a little hope. Turn card was the J taking all the mystery out of the river card (3 ) and Peters was eliminated in 15th place, good for $10,310.
Level 17 is set to begin following an hour dinner break. The players will return at 10 p.m. and the limits are going up to $10,000-$20,000 so there should quite a few eliminations in this level. Play will continue tonight until the final table, consisting of only nine players.
