Big Hands:
Stuart Patterson Eliminated
Stuart Patterson got it all in from the small blind with AJ. Unfortunately for him, the player in the big blind woke up with AK and Patterson was eliminated when the board came all rags with a pair of sixes. The big blind's ace-king high held up and Patterson hit the rail.
Sean McCabe Continues to Run Good
Sean McCabe raised to 2,000 from under the gun and the player in seat 1 called from late position. The flop came 643, and McCabe bet 3,5000, seat 1 called. The turn was the J and both players checked. The river was the 10 and McCabe bet 6,000. Seat 1 went into the tank and seemed somewhat confused and frustrated by the way the hand went down. McCabe told his opponent, "If this was a cash game I would show you what I have, but here it's not allowed." Seat 1 shook his head and threw his hand away. McCabe raked the pot and brought his chip count to just over 70,000, securing one of the top spots on the leader board this round.
Mark Seif Eliminated
On a flop of K63, Mark Seif got it all in with top pair (AK) against an opponent's bottom set (33). All in with his tournament life on the line, Seif needed some help on the turn and river. Two deuces hit the board, filling his opponent and sending Seif home early on in Day 1.
Ryan Young Gets Doubled Through
Ryan Young raised to 1,600 from middle position and the player in seat 9 reraised all in for 5,500 more from the cutoff. Young slowed down for a minute before making the call.
Seat 9: AK
Young: A9
Board: A868Q
Young was dominated before the flop and nothing changed by the river. Both players made two pair (aces and eights), seat 9's kicker of course being higher. Seat 9 doubled through Young who had dropped down to about 30,000 after the hand.

Limit Session
Patterson Wounds the Dragon
Stuart Patterson bet 800 on a flop pf 9-8-6 and was called by David Pham. Patterson again fired, 1,600, when the turn brought another 8. Pham made the call again but mucked when Patterson bet the 2 on the river.
Patterson had around 22,000 at the end of the level.
Good Fold Mr. Boeken
Noah Boeken raised to 1,600 preflop and the player in seat 6 re-raised to 2,400. Boeken made the call and the flop came K43. Boeken checked and his opponent fired 800. Boeken made the call and the K fell on the turn. Boeken again checked and his opponent bet 1,600. Boeken thought over his decision for a while and look confused, but he eventually mucked his hand. It's safe to say it was the right decision as his opponent threw in KK face up, having hit quads on the turn.
Parker Can't Push Chaser Off Draw
Brock Parker AKA tsoprano recently finished 6th in event 30 and now he's deep in another event. But he just took a big hit when his opponent caught his flush. Parker raised to 1,600 and was called by the small and big blind. The flop was Q85 and the small blind bet 800, the big blind raised to 1,600 and Parker reraised to 2,400. Both the small and big blinds called and the 3 fell on the turn. Action was checked to Parker who bet 1,600 and the small blind mucked, but the big blind called. The 6 fell on the river and the big blind bet out 1,600 and Parker reluctantly made the call, appearing to know he was rivered. The big blind showed J10 for a rivered flush and Parker mucked having lost over 7,000 of his chips in the hand.
No Limit Session
Hard To Beat Quads, Pescatori Gone
Max Pescatori was getting short on chips when this hand came up. He raised to 900 and was reraised by the player in seat 3 to 2,000. Pescatori called and the flop came 883. Both players checked and the turn brought the 9. Pescatori led out with a bet of 2,000 and was called by his opponent. The Q fell on the river and Pescatori made the same 2,000 bet. His opponent came over the top to put Pescatori all in. Pescatori pushed his remaining thousand into the pot and his opponent flipped over 88 for flopped quads. Pescatori tossed his cards into the muck and walked away from the table.
Dragon Slayed
After being among the chip leaders earlier in the event, David Pham fell when his A-J ran into an opponent's A-5. The problem was the flop came K-10-5 to give his opponent a pair of fives. The turn and river bricked and Pham shook hands with the players at his table and left.
Safety First
After raises preflop, the board was checked all the way down between 3 players, running A-3-2-K-2. "Nines," one player said. "I can beat that," was Jan Von Halle's response as he flipped over pocket jacks. He then wiggled his fingers to show he had been scared by the high cards on the board and that was why he had checked.

Le's bluff on river fails
Playing no'limit hold'em, Nam Le moved all in when Alex Jalai checked to him with the board showing A-8-7-K-5. They had nearly the number of chips remaining, and ultimately Jalai made the call with A-9. As soon as he called Le mucked and asked if he still had chips. Le later showed 6-3 and found out that Jalai did indeed have him covered.
Slotboom risks last few chips and is out
Rolf Slotboom moved all in for just a couple thousand and found himself up against two others. His 7-3 was a distant third and thought he caught a seven on the river it was too little, too late.

The final two-tables are set! Level 17 saw 7 eliminations and the staff at the Rio decided to call it a night with 18 players remaining. Foremost among the players returning tomorrow will be Mike Matusow. With a big stack of chips and an even bigger mouth, Matusow will be happy with nothing less than his 2nd bracelet of this year's series. To do so, he will have to fend off a number of big names. Hendon Mobber Ram Vaswani will enter the final day with the chip lead and he too will have a multiple-bracelet motivation: a win in this event will give him bracelets in consecutive years. Also in the hunt are high stakes cash specialists Chau Giang and David Benyamine. Benyamine, who was bounced on the final table bubble of the $5,000 stud high/low event only a few days ago, will have extra incentive to make a final table run here.
The players will reconvene at the Rio tomorrow at 3 p.m. PST.
Here is a recap of the final level of the day:
Blinds: 5,000-10,000
Players Left: 18 of 235
Chip Leaders:
Ram Vaswani - 450,000
Mike Matusow - 390,000
Chau Giang - 370,000
Greg Jamison - 315,000
Eugene Katchalov - 290,000
Toto Leonidas - 265,000
David Benyamine - 260,000
David Chiu - 260,000
Berry Johnston - 260,000
Hieu Ma - 230,000
Average Stack: 261,000
Eliminations:
19th – Patrick Rao
20th – James Grove
21st – James Van Alstyne
22nd – Danny Smith
23rd – Brad Booth
24th – Bruno Fitoussi
25th – Dustin Sitar
Big Hands and Storylines:
Dustin Donates And Goes Home
The two short stacks at the table Dustin Sitar and Stuart “thedonator” Patterson got all-in pre-flop and showed the following hands:
Patterson: A1072
Sitar: AKJ6
When the board – 109429 – had been dealt, Patterson’s nines and tens were enough to take down the pot. Sitar, slightly covered by Patterson, was eliminated in 25th place. Patterson is now up to 80,000.
“You Gotta Get Lucky”
Brad Booth raised from late position. Mike Matusow called from the button saying, “I’ll give you some action,” and William McMahon called in the big blind. The flop came JJ8. McMahon checked, Booth bet, Matusow raised, and his two rivals called. The turn was the 9 and McMahon and Booth both checked to Matusow who bet. This time McMahon cagily raised and Booth, with only 3,000 chips left, was forced to fold. Matusow called and the pair saw the river: 10. McMahon bet, Matusow raised, the call was made and they showed their hands:
Matusow: KKJ10
McMahon: KJ95
Matusow had re-drawn out on the river after McMahon had spiked a 6-outer on the turn. After the conclusion of the hand there was much discussion about whether the hand had played itself or if there was any other way it could have been played. Matusow put his inimitable stamp on the conversation when he opined, “You don’t think Phil Hellmuth has 11 bracelets because he plays good, do you? You gotta get lucky!” Matusow, whether through luck, skill, or a bit of both, is now up to 390,000.
You Gotta Get Lucky: Part II
The very next hand, William McMahon got most of his chips into the pot against David Chiu by the flop. McMahon bet his last 20,000 on the turn with the board reading KK510 and Chiu, after a great deal of thought, made a frustrated call. Chiu’s frustration grew when he saw McMahon’s holding: A10103. Chiu was drawing to only 3 outs with AA92 but the river was an unhelpful 9. The hand elevated McMahon to 120,000. Hey, you gotta get lucky.

Short stacked and all in before the flop, Pat Pezzin held KK102 against Shun Uchida's AQ82. The board came J44JA. Pezzin had the best hand going to the flop with pocket kings, but Uchida spiked an ace on the river, trumping Pat Pezzin's kings and sending him home in 14th place 9$33,135).

Big Hands:
Walpert Hanging By The Proverbial Thread
After Don Mullis limped in from late position, Leo Walpert moved all in for his last 17,200 from the big blind, and Mullis made the call. "It's time to gamble," said Mullis, showing J9. Walpert had A2, and they were indeed racing. The flop was favorable to Walpert, 855, and the turn card, the A, was, as Jimmy Fricke, seated next to Walpert, noted, "interesting," as it took away Wallis' jack or nine outs but gave him eight hearts that could make his hand. The 5 on the river, however, made Walpert a boat and doubled him up to about 40,000.
Vehedi Mucks For Half His Chips
Vehedi fired 16,000 on a board of KJ27 and Tony Dunst, who had smooth-called the flop, immediately moved all in. Vehedi had about 27,000 behind and deliberated for several minutes before he made his decision. "You seem so confident," he said, finally, and folded his hand. Dunst is now one of the chip leaders, with about 170,000 in chips.
Patterson Eliminated
Stuart Patterson took a hit when his JJ ran up against Carter King's KK and the board stayed low. He was eliminated a short while later.
Players are now on a twenty minute break.

Adios, Humberto
Either before or after the flop Humberto Brenes was all in with A6 and up against Chau Giang's KK. The board was 524K5, and Brenes was knocked out. After the hand Giang had roughly 20,000 chips.
Jamie wins with KJ vs TT, again
After unknown action prefop, Jamie Gold moved all in after a 39K flop. Gold's opponent thought for a minute before calling with TT. Gold, understandably excited, jumped up off his seat, flipped over KJ and began pacing around the area. The turn and river were Q and 9, respectively, and Gold doubled up to about 13,000 chips.
Up-and-down level for Bellande
Jean-Robert Bellande, who is known for talking nonstop, had reason to do so during level 7. Early in the level he doubled up to 10,000 chips with AJ against KQ. Then he doubled up another time soon after. As the level came to a close, Bellande was in a big pot against Stuart Patterson and a third player. On an ace-high flop, Patterson bet and Bellande called. Then the third player pushed all in. Patterson called all in and Bellande eventually folded A-Q. Patterson held A-K while the other player had J-J and caught a jack on the river to eliminate Patterson.

Hands:
Men the Master triples up to stay alive
Down to under 2,000 chips, Men Nguyen puts 1,200 chips into the pot preflop and sees a 633 flop. He happily puts the rest of his chips in and shows 6-3. Stuart Patterson is also all in on the hand with A-A and two low cards. The turn and river do not help Patterson or the third player in the hand and Nguyen triples up to over 5,000. Patterson was eliminated shortly thereafter.
Rodman folds on river
Blair Rodman, clearly frustrated, struggled with the decision after his opponent bets on a board of 42A73. After a minute, he calls and sees his opponent flip over 5-4 for a five-high straight and the nut low. After the hand Rodman is down to under 4,000 chips.
Wolfe takes half of monster pot
On a board of 84T4, Wolfe bets out and then reraises after a player raises. There was also a third player in the pot. The river is the A and Wolfe bets. Both players called and Wolfe flipped over A-4 for a full house and another player showed 3-2 for the nut low hand. The third player in the hand angrily mucked, upset that the ace on the river ruined his hand. With the pot Wolfe now has 8,000 chips.
Fricke doing well
Jimmy Fricke folded to a bet on a K2K, but is still doing well and has roughly 10,000 chips.

Level 8 Update
Jun 29, '07
Level 8 has just wrapped up and 380 players remain with an average chip stack of $21,452 going into Level 9, where the blinds will increase to $600-$1200 with a $100 ante.
Isaac Haxton raised to $2,200 and the player in seat no. 1 makes the call out of the big blind. The flop comes K 9 8, and the big blind moves all-in. Haxton calls (has him covered) and turns over A K while the big blind turns over J 9. The turn and river bring the 3 and the 4, no help to the all-in player and Haxton scoops the pot.
Stu Paterson was the next young online pro to send an opponent to the rail, managing to nearly double up in the process. The player in seat no. 5 moved all-in before the flop, and Paterson called behind him. Paterson had him slightly covered, turning over A 3 while the player in seat no. 5 showed Q J. The board came A 8 3 A 10, giving Paterson a full house and sending his opponent to the rail.
Nick Binger had a strong level as well, slowly building his stack and even managing to eliminate two players in the same hand. Binger makes a pre-flop raise of $1,800 and the player in seat no.8 moved all-in. The player in seat no. 1 moved all-in behind him for slightly more, and Binger quickly called (he had them both covered). Seat no. 8 turns over Q Q while seat no. 1 shows 10h10 and Binger flips over A A. The board came 9 7 4 3 9, no help to either of the all-in players as Binger eliminates both of them in the same hand.
