Burnt out and ready for a change, Kevin Schaffel closed up the family business that he had been a part of for the last 30 years. He had no idea what he was going to do or what profession he was going to pursue. Having always been successful at the card table, he decided to try to make a living playing poker.
That initial decision proved to be a difficult one, as Schaffel struggled to keep his head above water due to a painful stretch of cards that seemed to last events. And then, in a single tournament, the drought was over and a dream was realized as he final tabled the 2009 main event.
Schaffel, a father of two from Florida, was sponsored by PokerStars at his November final table.
