Hour One Recap
Jun 15, '07
Play got underway at noon in the $2,000 no-limit hold'em event, with players spread around the Amazon room and the Player's Pavillion. Per usual with the lower buy-in no-limit events, the field is large and predominately unknown. Pros are scattered around, with one or two to every few tables.
Reigning champ Jeff Madsen is indeed defending his title today. Facing a $900 bet on the river into a pot of around $2,000, Madsen went into the tank. With a board K

, Madsen eventually called with the 8

. His opponent said "good call" and tabled the 5

, for a busted flush draw.
Dave Stann and Jeff Cabanillas got involved in a large three handed pot. After a flop of A
J

, Stann, Cabanillas and a third player had all their money in. Stann held K

, for a pair and the nut flush draw, Cabanillas flopped a flush with the 9

. and the third player held J

for a set. The turn brought the 3
, which filled up the third player and left Cabinillas drawing dead. Stann needed to catch a king for a higher full house, but the 3
hit the board and both he and Cabanillas were crippled.
