Eliminations: Gavin Griffin, Dmitri Nobles, Vivek Rajkumar, Scott Seiver
Big Hands:
Griffin Gone
A player raised to 1,200 from late position and Gavin Griffin pushed his final 3,550 into the pot. The player called and showed KK, having Griffin in a world of hurt as he showed 66. Any possible flush Griffin could hit would not save him as his opponent had those draws covered. Griffin needed to hit some kind of a straight or a one of the two remaining sixes. The board ran out Q10394 and Griffin's main event was over.
Brad Booth Picks Up Aces
Three players limped to Booth who made it 1,500 to go. One limper folded and the second called. Marcel Luske was the third limper and called as well. The flop came 886 and everyone checked. When the 3 came on the turn, action was checked to Booth who fired 1,700. He was called by seat 2 and Luske got out of the way. Seat 2 checked in the dark and the 5 came on the river. Booth bet 2,500 and was called. He showed AA and his opponent mucked. Booth took a pot worth 7,500 and increased his stack to about 72,000.
Gowen Needs No Showdown
On a board of 10103, Alex Jacob checked, Clonie Gowen checked and the player in seat 3 fired 750. Jacob folded and Gowen made the call. The turn was the Q and Gowen led out with a bet of 2,500. Seat 3 made the call and the 5 fell on the river. Gowen bet 4,500 and seat 3 shook his head, mucking his hand as he lost a third of his stack in the hand. Gowen took the pot without a showdown and was nearing 70,000 in chips.
Luske Runs Into Kings
On a flop of Q63, seat 2 checked to Marcel Luske, who bet 1,000. Seat 2 made the call and the 6 came on the turn. Seat 2 checked to Luske again and "The Flying Dutchman" fired 2,000. Seat 2 made the call and both players checked the 8 on the river. Seat 2 rolled over KK and Luske quickly mucked.
Madsen With a Gutshot
In a three-way limped pot, the flop came down AQ3. Madsen bet 1,000 from the button and only one player made the call. The turn was the 4 and Madsen's opponent checked. Madsen then bet 2,500, which his opponent called. The K fell on the river and Madsen fired 5,600 into the pot. His opponent called again and Madsen showed J10 for a broadway straight on the river. Madsen was up to about 85,000.
Singer Bluffed For All to See
On a board of QQ4J, the player in seat 3 bet 800 and David Singer made the call. The 10 came on the river and seat 3 bet 1,600. Singer thought about a call, but mucked his hand as camera crews looked on. Seat 3 showed A2 for a whole lot of nothing and said that he only bluffed Singer because the cameras were around.
Full House v.s. Flush, Ng Doubles
With 9938 on the board Evelyn Ng bet 2,500 and was check-raised to 7,500. Ng elected to just call and the J came on the river. After her opponent bet 6,000, Ng moved all in for 9,125 total and was called by her opponent, who held the AK for the rivered nut flush. However, Ng held JJ for a rivered full house to take down the large pot, boosting her stack to 50,000.
Dmitri Nobles Busts
Nobles was all in on a board showing Q105A2. Nobles held AK, but it was second best to his opponent's 1010. Nobles' opponent apologized for knocking him out, but it was little consolation to Nobles as he made his way toward the exit.

Big Hands:
Liebert Sets The Pace
Even though she's seated with a talented group that includes David "Devilfish" Ulliot and Berry Johnston, Kathy Liebert had won three straight hands without competition when this fourth hand came up. The player in seat 2 made it 600 to go and Liebert called from middle position. The flop came K83, seat 2 bet 1,400 and Liebert called. On the 5 turn card, seat 2 immediately went all in and was called by Liebert. Seat 2 confidently tabled KJ for top pair, but Liebert showed AK for top pair with an ace kicker. The river was the 4 and the player was eliminated while Liebert chipped up to around 20,000.
Devilfish Has Got All The Moves
Ulliot called the big blind of 200 and four players saw a flop. It came K96 and all players checked. The 8 came on the turn and the player in the big blind bet 425. Ulliot called and the rest folded. The 7 came on the river and the big blind bet 900, only to have Ulliot raise all in over the top for about 3,000 more. The big blind quickly mucked and Ulliot showed A3 for a busted flush draw and said, "The old fish has got all the moves." He was up to 5,500 after the hand.
The Razor Slices Through the Field
John "Razor" Phan raised to 600 and an opponent moved all in for 2,350 more. Phan made the call and showed 44. His opponent showed AJ and the coin flip was on. But on the flop of 554, Phan hit a full house and his opponent was dead to a runner-runner straight flush, which he missed as the board completed 3K.
Ladies Lassoed by Cowboys
Facing a raise, Alex Jacob shoved a stack of yellow 1,000 chips into the pot - enough to put his opponent all in. His opponent called and Jacobs tabled a big hand - QQ. However, his opponent showed KK. The board ran A2247.
Farewell Nobles
Dmitri Nobles was down to 200 in chips, which he shoved in preflop. He received two callers and the board came J-5-4-K-K. One of his opponents had a five and that was good enough to take the pot and send Nobles to the rail.

Event 21 - $5000 NLHE
Jun 11, '08
Blinds: 500-1000 (100 Ante), moving up to 600-1,200 (100 Ante)
Players Remaining: 150
Eliminations: Thomas Wahlroos
Notable Hands:
Gobbo's Aces No Good
Jimmy Fricke held AA against two all-in opponents, who held A4 and QQ. Gobboboy was poised to eliminate both players at one fell swoop, but the fates reared their ugly heads. The flop brought a nasty looking 653, followed immediately by the 7, completing a straight for the player in seat 2. The river added insult to injury with the 8, and Fricke was forced to settle for a measley side pot and the elimination of the player in seat 3 with the unlucky ladies.
Nobles' Four Noblemen
Dimitri Nobles was all in before the flop with JJ against his opponent's AK. Dimitri stood from his seat and started yelling "Hold one time!" The dealer obliged, laying out J105 on the flop, and then downright indulged by peeling off the J on the turn. Nobles exploded into celebration while the meaningless A fell on the river, then loaded his doubled up stack into a chip rack as his table was broken down.
Sick Call Kenny Lays It Down
Kenny Tran three bet an opening raise by the player in first position. The player made the call and checked in the dark. The dealer laid out 976, and Kenny fired out a bet of 5,000. His opponent immediately moved all in, and Kenny went into the tank for a few moments before folding his hand. The under the gun player showed 77 for a flopped set, and Kenny fished his cards out of the muck to show JJ.
Apestyles Monkeys Around
Jon Van Fleet opened a pot from the hijack to 2,500 and was called by the button. The small blind then moved all in for a total of 16,200, folding the big blind. Apestyles moved all in behind him, muscling out the player on the button. The small blind showed AK while Van Fleet tabled a meager looking 63. As the board ran out A8725, Van Fleet realized that his opponent had moved in for about 10,000 more chips than he had initially assumed. The mistake cost him dearly, and he was left with just over 10,000 after the encounter.
You Are So Sick
Eli Elezra limped under the gun and was raised by the player in seat 3 to a total of 2,300. The remaining players folded, and Elezra reraised to 6,000. Seat 3 folded, and Elezra looked at him in disgust. "You are so sick," said the one time chip leader, flipping over AA. Elezra promised that this was the first time he had seen aces all day, but seemed to think they would be coming in ready supply from now on.

2,500 NLHE - Day 1 - Nobles Up Early, The Shark Bites Laak
Jun 07, '08
Blinds/Antes: 25-50
Entrants: Approx. 1,382
Big Hands:
Nobles Off To a Fast Start
Dmitri Nobles got involved in a four-way pot early after calling a preflop raise from the button. The flop came J86, the player in seat 1 bet out 275 and everyone called. The 9 came on the turn and this time action checked to Nobles, who bet 775 and was called by two players and the other folded. The river was the A and action was again checked around to Nobles who elected to check as well and flip over his 75 for the straight, explaining he was scared someone might have been setting a trap. His opponents mucked and Nobles saw his stack jump to around 9,000.
Back to Work
J.C. Tran, coming off a 7th place finish in the $2,000 No Limit Hold'em tournament Friday, was back to work. From the button, Tran raised from the button and stole the blinds, improving his stack to around 5,600. A few tables away, Shannon Shorr, coming off a 2nd place finish in the same event, got up from his seat at this tournament and took a little walk around the poker area to say hello to a friend playing in this tournament. There's no rest for the weary at the World Series of Poker.
Black to Flack
Layne Flack is seated next to Andy Black. Flack won a pot early when he bet out on a AQ964 board and his opponent folded. Flack was up to around 6,000 after the hand.
Jamie Gold Doubles Up Early
With a pre-flop raise if 150, three players saw a flop including Jamie Gold from the small blind. The flop came AQ9, it was checked to seat 7 who bet 150 from the cutoff. Gold called from the small blind while the third player dropped out. The turn was the A, and first to act, Jamie Gold moved all in for just about 3,000. The cuttoff went into the tank for several minutes as Gold tried to coerce him into a call. "No ace? I guess if you had an ace you would have beat me into the pot. You're probably drawing dead." And with the same slick trash talk that won him his bracelet in '06, Gold taunted his opponent into making a call. Gold turned over AK while the cutoff showed A8. The river was the 4 and Jamie Gold doubled up to just over $7,000.
The Shark Takes A Bite Out of the Unabomber
The flop was Q37. Humberto Brenes led out with a bet of 200. Phil Laak made the call. The 8 showed up on the turn. Brenes led out again, betting 600. Laak again made a quick call. The river was the 2 and Brenes fired another shot of 1,000. Laak made the call and Brenes turned over 33 for a flopped set. Laak mucked and his stack was down early to around 3,500. Brenes was around 8,000 after raking in the pot.
Stick a Fork In Him, He's Do-ne
On a board showing K108J, the player in seat 2 moved all in. Quinn Do made the call and his opponent showed K-J for top two pair. It was not good enough however, as Do turned over pocket kings for top set. Seat two was drawing dead, so of course the J had to come on the river to give him the sucker's end of a full house. Do improved to well over 12,000 in chips.
