Big Hands:
Champ Against the Ropes?
Last year's winner of this event John Guth had to lay his hand down in a big pot against Ted Lawson. The pot to Lawson to around 40,000 but dropped Guth down to just a few thousand. The very next hand Guth was able to double up, then he doubled again when he held A-10-9-7 on a board of 10-10-7-J-K. All of the sudden Guth had around 15,000 and was still alive.
Leonidas Approaches 60,000
Toto Leonidas bet 4,000 into a good sized pot on a board of K9210. Loi Tran thought for a while then folded, but Gavis Smith made the call. The river was the 8 and Leonidas bet 4,000 again. Smith decided to fold and give the pot to Leonidas, who is nearing 60,000 in chips.
Juanda Gone With Baby Flush Against Seidel's Nut Flush
On a board of A91092 John Juanda got his money all in against Erik Siedel. Siedel flipped over A842 for the nut flush and Juanda showed a baby flush before mucking and leaving the table.
Matusow Starting Trouble?
After busting, Joe Cassidy walked over to another table to tell Huck Seed about his final hand. "No bad beat stories," came Matusow's request, who was at the same table as Seed. Before leaving, Cassidy launched an empty bottle at Matusow, knocking over a few chips. Jeff Madsen, sitting next to Matusow, took the bottle and while Cassidy was walking away he launched it over some spectators' heads and narrowly missed Cassidy. All because the Mouth...
Dolly Doubles Opponent
Doyle Brunson got a short stacked Steve Ware all in preflop and they showed their hands. Brunson held A752 and Ware held AK82. The board came J76103, giving Ware the nut flush and splitting the low with Brunson.
After the pot there was some confusion about whether Ware got the correct amount of the pot and the floor was called over. After giving a single 100 chip back to Brunson the problem was resolved and play continued.
A Heavyweight Split
When the betting was complete, Johnny Chan and Men Nguyen showed their cards on a A-3-2-8-2 board. Chan showed A-5-2-Q for a full house and Nguyen showed 10-7-6-5 for low and the two split the pot.
