Round Three: Hour One – Slow Start to Round of 32 Matches with More Chips in PlayJun 01, '11 NOTE: Three blind levels will be played each hour, as each is just 20 minutes long. The only difference in round 3 is that the blinds begin at 600-1,200. Players Remaining: 32 out of 128 Starting Stacks: 300,000 broken up into three chances — meaning that the players started with 100,000 and had 200,000 additional on the side that they could add on at anytime before a hand. If their additional chips were not in play when a hand begins, those chips couldn’t be used to wager with. Ongoing Matches: David Benyamine vs. Anthony Guetti Ashton Griffin vs. Tom Dwan Eric Froehlich vs. Steve Zolotow Yevgeniy Timshenko vs. Amritraj Singh Eliminations: NONE Key Hands: Hansen vs. Alaei There was 10,000 in the pot and a board of 6 5 3 A sat on the table when Daniel Alaei bet 7,500 from the small blind. Hansen went into the tank for a minute and eventually tossed in the chips for the call. The 6 fell on the river and Alaei checked. Hansen bet 22,200 and Alaei made the call after some thought. Alaei revealed K 3 and Hansen mucked the 10 face up. Alaei took the lead in their match after the hand. Juanda Down to his Final 100,000 John Juanda moved all in on a 8 4 3 A board with 10 8 in the hole but unfortunately for him David Paredes was waiting to make the call with J 8. His dominant hand faded the river and he won the pot, forcing Juanda to reach for his final 100,000 to reload. Lykov vs. Marafioti Match Heating Up The most interesting match at the start of day 2 so far has been between Matt Marafioti and Maxim Lykov. The two have been jousting early and often and that hasn’t gone so well for Lykov, who is currently out of rebuy chips. In perhaps the largest confrontation between the two so far, Lykov bet 3,500 from the button preflop and Marafioti raised to 10,500. Lykov then reraised all in and Marafioti made the call to cover him. Their cards: Lykov: 4 4 Board: 7 5 4 K 9 Marafioti won the seesaw hand thanks to the king on the turn and Lykov was forced to reload after the hand. Player Tags: John Juanda, Gus Hansen, Daniel Alaei, David Paredes, Maxim Lykov, Matthew Marafioti Elite 8 Hour Two: Timoshenko Avances to Final 4Jun 02, '11 NOTE: Three blind levels will be played each hour, as each is just 20 minutes long. The only difference in the elite eight is that the blinds begin at 2,500-5,000. NOTE: Day 3 Will Continue Until the Conclusion of the Elite 8 Round. The Final 4 and Championship round will take place tomorrow. Players Remaining: 7 out of 128 Starting Stacks: 1,200,000 broken up into three chances — meaning that the players started with 400,000 and had 800,000 additional on the side that they could add on at anytime before a hand. David Paredes made a set of queens on the turn and the board paired on the river to give Paredes the full house. Saul exited the tournament and Paredes grew his stack to 340,000. He has cut his path to the chip lead the hard way today, eliminating three of the best players in the tournament in the process. He has now taken out Saul in addition to Vanessa Selbst and Jason Mercier. Player Tags: Kevin Saul, David Paredes Vanessa Selbst Doubles Up Opponent and Then BustsOct 26, '10 On a flop that read 9 4 2 Vanessa Selbst bet 8,300 from the cutoff and the hijack raised to 25,000. Selbst reraised to 90,000 and her opponent made the all-in call for 51,000. The blinds folded and Paredes made the call. The flop came down 632 and Paredes checked. Mercier bet 7,300 and Paredes check-raised to 17,500. Mercier called and the turn was the A. Paredes bet 19,200 and Mercier called. The river was the J and Paredes bet enough to put Mercier all in for his last 50,000 or so. Mercier eventually called with A-4 and Paredes showed 33 for a set. Mercier was eliminated and Paredes moved up to about 200,000 in chips. Player Tags: David Paredes, Jason Mercier David Parades Eliminated in 11th Place ($39,346)Oct 27, '10 John Patgorski raised to 28,000 preflop and David Parades, Anonymous, and Bernard Lee all made the call. Parades was eliminated in 10th place and he will take home $39,346 in prize money. Player Tags: Bernard Lee, David Paredes, Gabe Patgorski David Paredes DoublesOct 27, '10 Anonymous opened for a raise to 18,000 from under the gun and was called by David Adkison. The action folded around to David Paredes in the big blind and he reraised to 56,000. Anonymous then made it 256,000, letting Adkison out of the hand. Here’s where it got complicated. Paredes announced call, clearly under the impression that he was all in. Anonymous must have thought so as well, because he turned his hand over, revealing AK. Paredes then showed 99 before the dealer stopped action, explaining that Paredes still had 36,000 in chips behind. The floor was called over and they ruled that since both players intended to be all in preflop, there action would stand and no penalties would be given out. The flop came down A54 and Paredes immediately soured, bemoaning his luck since joining table 2. Anonymous remains silent, but has to get up from the table when the 9 hit the turn. For some reason, Paredes doesn’t cheer up much after hitting his card and begins to tell the table that the card was “justice” for all the misfortune he’s had today. The inconsequential river is the 5 and Paredes continues to talk as he collects his chips. During his rant, he accuses Anonymous of angle shooting, purposely turning over his cards to get information. Of course, this doesn’t make any sense since both players were simply confused about the amount of the bet in front of them. Immediately, the rest of the table, including Steve Zolotow and John Patgorski come to Anonymous defense and explain that it was a simple misunderstanding. Paredes won’t have it though and a few awkward minutes follow as Paredes builds his chips. Paredes now has about 680,000, while Anonymous is down to 450,000. Player Tags: David Paredes |
