 Serock and Elizabeth Give Some Away
In a 4-way raised pot, the flop cam e4 29 and seat 6 checked to Shannon Elizabeth, who fired 2,000 into the pot. Seat 4 folded and Joe Serock made the call. Seat 6, the original checker, then check-raised to 6,000.
Elizabeth folded by Serock tanked and made the call. When the J fell on the turn seat 6 quickly moved all in for over 20,000. Serock quickly folded, giving the pot to his opponent.
Serock still had 43,000 after the hand, but Elizabeth was down to around 17,000.
Buffer Straightens Out Opponent
Burce Buffer bet 1,000 on a 3-way flop of 4 87 ad was called by seat 7 and 8. On the 6s turn seat 7 fired 1,400 and seat 8 made the call. Buffer wasted little time raising to 4,000 total. Seat 7 folded but seat 8 decided to call.
The 6h came on the river and seat 8 checked to the aggressor. Buffer fired 2,500 and seat 8 checked his cards before letting them hit the muck. Buffer showed anyway, the A5 for a turned straight. He had around 35,000 after the hand.
Hachem Loses to Two Pair
Entering the action late, Joe Hachem faced a bet of 1,600 from his opponent on a board of Q8A109. He eventually called and said “nice hand” as soon as he opponent showed A10 for two pair. Hachem had around 24,000 after the loss.
 Ivey Forces a Big Laydown
Entering the action late, a pot of 17,000 had developed on a board of 9463. When the K peeled off on the river Phil Ivey bet enough to put his opponent all in for his last 12,000.
After tanking for a while in front of the ESPN cameras, his opponent folded QQ face up and said “Go ahead man.” Ivey now has around 62,000 in chips.
Little Value for Little’s Set
On a board of QJ79, seat 8 folded to Jonathan Little’s bet of 1,000. Little let him know that he wasn’t picking on him and flashed the 99 for a turned set. He sat with around 29,500 after the hand.
 Ferguson Takes A Pot, But John Phan The Star
With 2,500 already in the pot preflop, Justin Smith fired 1,800 after the flop came down 876. Chris Ferguson was next to act and he raised it to 5,300.
The action was then on John Phan, and the action stayed on John Phan for awhile. He tanked for more than three minutes, giving the ESPN camera crews along with other players time to crowd around the table. Phan counted out a call, then counted out a raise, then looked at his cards, then shuffled his chips altogether, then looked at his hand again.
The player in seat 1 then leaned over to the dealer and asked in a whisper what the procedure was when asking to call a clock on a player. Eventually, Phan did release his hand. Smith did the same in much faster fashion as his cards almost beat Phan’s to the muck. Ferguson took the pot and he was back around 30,000.
“You were going to get reraised anyway,” Phan told Smith after the hand.
“Yeah,” Smith responed. “But I call you.”
Smith was at 32,000 and Phan was at 28,000.
Sheikhan Can’t Call
Picking up the action after the board read AJ103, there was 800 in the pot and Shawn Sheikhan led out with 550. The player in seat 7 called as did the player in seat 10. Another player in the hand folded and the three remaining saw the J fall on the river.
Sheikhan checked and seat 7 bet 1,500. Seat 10 mucked and Sheikhan soon followed suit. Sheikhan was down to 28,300.
George Danzer Chops a Pot
On a board read Q77QA a player in middle position bet 1,050 and George Danzer quickly called. His oppnented tabeled the 87 and Danzer exposed the 97 for a chop. Danzer was at right around the starting stack of 30,000 after the hand.
 Kirk Morrison Sitting With Just a Beer
Over in the pavilion room, Kirk Morrison was sitting at a table with a beer and no chips. Morrison wasn’t all in, but simply waiting to receive his chips and to be dealt a hand, after registering late on day 1d. Morrison was the last player that made it into the main event last year, but said he showed up this year fifteen minutes earlier in order to avoid another close call.
David Saab Moves All In
David Saab bet from early position and was called by an opponent on the button. The flop came J82 and Saab bet 1,000. His opponent raised to 3,125. Saab instantly moved all in for 12,125 more. His opponent went into the tank before finally folding. Saab was up to 20,000 after the hand.
 Bernard Lee Wins a Nice One
Bernard Lee reraised to 1,525 preflop after his opponent raised to 400. Another opponent and the original raiser made the call and the flop was dealt K K Q. One opponent bet 4,500 and Lee made the call. The other player got out of the way and the turn fell 3.
His opponent bet 8,500 and Lee made the call. The river brought the 8 and and both players checked. Lee revealed A-K and his opponent mucked. Lee held 41,000 after the hand and he has finished level 2 with 43,650.

Seat 4 raised to 1,500 and Vanessa Selbst called from the button. Seat 7 raised to 5,000 and action came back around to seat 4, who called. Selbst thought for a moment and asked seat 4 for a chip count. He counted his stacks out (about 30,000) and Selbst bet enough to put both him and seat 7 all in. Seat 7 insta-called for his last 15,000 and seat 4 looked pained and after a minute he folded QQ face up.

 David Baker Eliminated
We saw David Baker move all-in on the turn with the board reading 2469 and Steven Curran made the call.
Baker had a monster draw as he tabled 85, but Curran showed 9h9d, giving him top set. The river was the A and Baker bricked off and is eliminated.
Morrison Getting Short
With 4,200 in the middle preflop, Kirk Morrison and his opponent both checked a flop of QJ7. When the 8c fell on the turn, Morrison’s opponent bet out 5,000 and Morrison called.
Both players checked when the A fell on the river. Morrison’s opponent was going for a check-raise and turned over the A-K with the K, giving him the nut flush.

His opponent insta-called and tabled the A7 and was behind the 98 of Saab. With over 200,000 in the middle, the 6 pealed off the deck. Saab’s opponent hit the nut flush and Saab was drawing dead. The river was a 5 and it was official. Day 2b has a new overall chip leader — Charles Alexandre Sylvestre. He was at over 260,000 after the hand.
Humberto Brenes Wins a Hand
Humberto Brenes check-called a bet of 1500 on a flop of QJ3. The turn brought the 6 and Humberto checked from the big blind. His opponent on the button bet 2,500 this time and Brenes check-raised to 7,500. Brenes’ opponent went into the tank before finally folding. Humberto was at about 50,000 after the hand.
 Swick Takes Hit From Schneider
Tom Schneider and UFC fighter Mike Swick were heads up on a flop of 67A. Schneider bet 3,000 and Swick raised enough to put Schneider all in for his last 10,000 or so.
Tom made the call and saw that he was ahead, but Swick had plenty of outs. Their hands:

Nicholas Sliwinski Eliminates Phongthep Thiptinnakon
Action folded around to Phongthep Thiptinnakon who moved in for 115,000. Action folded to Nicholas Sliwinski in the big blind. He insta-called and showed AK. Thiptinnakon’s KQ was dominated and when the board came A647A he was eliminated. That infusion of chips lifts Sliwinski to almost 800,000.
Ylon Schwartz Joins The Million Chip Club
On a board of JJ7, Edward Roger had to decide whether or not to call Ylon Schwartz’s bet of 309,000. After quiet and careful deliberation, Roger made the call. The two showed their hands:
Schwartz: QQ
Roger: 88
The turn was the J, sealing the hand for Schwarz. With that pot, Schwartz jumps to just over one million in chips. Roger is still more than healthy with about 750,000.
David Saab Hits Alan Jaffray Hard
An important hand occurred in the last level that we just got wind of via David Saab:
Action folded around to Helge Pederen in the cutoff who raised to 18,000. Alan Jaffray called on the button. David Saab, in the small blind, made it 60k to go after a bit of hesitation. Pedersen laid down his hand and action was back on Jaffray. Jaffray, perhaps suspicious of Saab (who had squeezed earlier), raised to 300k. Saab then moved all-in for another 500,000 and Jaffray made the call. Saab showed A-K and his hand held up against Jaffray’s A-9 offsuit. That hand decimated Jaffray’s stack, and he would be eliminated a short time later.
Saab now sits as one of the chip leaders with 1.7 million.
 'Raptor' Swoops in for a Monster
David “Raptor” Benefield swept in with such precision, Eric Tom never knew what hit him. There was a raise to 24,000 from a player in early position, and Tom smooth-called from middle position. The player in front of the cut-off made the call as well, and Benefield in the small blind called to create a four-way pot, as James McManus in the big blind folded. The flop came 875, and after two checks, Tom stepped out for 100,000. Play was folded to Benefield, who called. The J hit the turn, and after Benefield checked, Tom announced all-in for 320,000. Benefield snap-called and showed the bad news – 96 in his hand for the nut straight plus a flush draw. Tom, with his QQ, was drawing dead as the 3 hit the river, and Benefield scooped in the monster 980,000 pot.
Queens Work for Qiu
Unlike Tom, the red ladies worked for Andrew Qiu. He was all-in for 149,000 with QQ against the AK of Terry Lade. The board ran out 95329 and Qiu doubled up.
Billirakis Bounces Marcon
Marco Marcon announced all-in from middle position for 113,000, and play was folded to Steve Billarakis in the small blind who made the call. Marcon held 77 while Billirakis held A10. Marcon watched as an ace flopped, coming A99, and never caught up with the 8 on the turn and 2 on the river.
 Matusow Doubles Through Keller with Aces
On a flop of 983, Mike Matusow shipped in his remaining 271,000 into a pot already containing over 100,000 in chips. His opponent, Thomas Keller, went into the tank and deliberated for several minutes while considering his options. After counting out the necessary amount for a call, Keller announced as much and turned over 1010. Matusow stood up and pumped his fists into the air as he flipped over AA. After Matusow settled down, the dealer put down the K on the turn. “A jack would have been more interesting,” commented Gus Hansen, who wandered over from his nearby table to watch the action and brought a burst of laughter from the spectators. “I mean, for me. I’m just passing by,” he added. The 2 fell on the river, and Matusow won a large pot bringing his stack to almost 700,000. Keller was crippled and left with under 200,000 in chips.
Cantu bluffs to take down huge pot of over 700k
With the board 1010Q2, the small blind checked and then Brandon Cantu bet 125,000 from the button. The small blind thought it over for a long time before raising to 275,000. Cantu immediately asked how many chips he had left. When he heard about 350,000 he moved all in. The small blind folded and Cantu jumped out of his seat and flipped over AJ. Mike Matusow, who recently doubled up, turned around and took a look at the table. "Did you check-raise bluff Brandon?" Matusow asked. "You should have moved all in then. You have no idea how sick he is?"

The Table to Avoid
Table 1 in the blue section looks to be the most fearsome (and feared) table in the room. Matt Matros and James McManus each have about 1.1 million, and sandwiched between them is David Benefield who has 800,000.
The table has a brand new chip leader though. David Saab, from Melbourne Australia, just won a race with pocket queens against ace-king offsuit to vault himself to 1.5 million. These four big stacks now sit all in a row: Saab in seat 9, Matros in 1, Benefield in 2, and McManus in the 3 seat.
William Burdick Eliminated by Charalampos Tsaoussis
William Burdick was all-in with his 1010 against Tsaoussis’ AK. The flop – KQ10 – brought a couple of “Oohs” from the table. The turn was the A, turning Tsaoussis’ jack outs into split-pot outs but now giving him a full house draw. The river was the K, giving him the full house and eliminating Burdick. Tsaoussis now has 250,000.
 Matusow gambles, down to 200k
With the board A975, Sigurd Eskeland found himself all in against Mike Matusow. Eskeland held AQ, while Matusow held T9 and needed help on the river. But the river was the 6 and Eskeland took down a pot of close to 400,000. After the hand Matusow had about 200,000 chips, less than half the average at this point.
Cantu doubles up Bishop
Joe Bishop was all in after a J-10-8 flop and Brandon Cantu, who is among the chip leaders, made the call. Cantu held A-J and was in terrible shape against Bishop's pocket aces. The turn and river were 10-8 and Bishop doubled up to about 500,000. Cantu now has just over one million chips.
Wrong Read for Ng
There was a raise and reraise preflop, and both Santeri Valikoski and Evelyn Ng saw the flop come down 822. Valikoski stepped out for a bet of 38,000, and Ng made a reraise to 90,000. Valikoski then pushed all-in, forcing Ng to make a decision for 74,000 more. A loss would tumble her down to about 120,000. Unable to believe her opponent, Ng called and showed 66. Valikoski had the goods however, tabling KK. The 5 on the turn and 7 on the river were narrow misses for Ng, but the pot was shipped to native of Finland.

A player in mid-position raised to 18,000 and current chip-leader Jeremy Joseph made the call from the cut-off. The button player also called, along with the big blind. The flop came A55, and after the blind checked, the original raiser bet 28,000. Joseph and the button player both called. The 9 on the turn was checked by all three players, then the K fell on the turn. The first player checked, and Joseph bet 100,000. The button player folded, and the first player couldn’t control his curiosity and called. Joseph flipped over A9 for two pair made on the turn, good enough to take the pot down. The player on the button claimed to hand held KJ for numerous outs after the flop, and had considered a call on the river.

Phil Hellmuth Eliminated in 45th Place
It’s official: This year’s World Series of Poker main event winner will not be a former champion.
After watching his stack slowly chip away, Phil Hellmuth finally made his stand by moving all in for 405,000 from under the gun. Hellmuth’s shove marked the first time today that Hellmuth was at risk for all of his chips. The action folded to Andrew Rosskamm who called. As the spectators rose to their feet, Hellmuth turned over AQ to Rosskamm’s JJ. As the shouts of encouragement came, the flop fell K43, failing to give Hellmuth a pair. As the dealer prepared to deal the turn card, several shouts of turn card requests from audience members filled the ESPN featured table area. Just as someone had requested, the 10 fell on the turn. This card gave Hellmuth several ways of winning the pot on the river. The chips would go his way if the river card was any ace, jack, queen, or heart. The crowd silenced as the 2 fell on the river.
Hellmuth earned $154.400 for his 45th place finish, bringing his WSOP career total earnings to $6,008,145, including 11 bracelet victories. After politely shaking the hands of his tablemates, Hellmuth exited the tournament area with a storm of obscenities, cursing his inability to “catch a break.”
Saab Wrecks with Aces
Dean Hamrick raised to 90,000 while one from the cut-off, and had David Saab and Nikolay Losev both make the call, Saab from the button and Losev from the small blind. The flop came K88, and after checks from Hamrick and Losev, the fireworks started. Saab, the short stack of the remaining players bet 200,000 at the pot. Losev then check-raised to 400,000, and suddenly Hamrick called the check-raise. Saab now faced a decision for the rest of his chips. He had another 465,000, and finally with a shrug he announced all-in. Losev and Hamrick both made the call, and the 10 came on the turn. Losev now stepped out for a 600,000 bet, and this time Hamrick released his hand. Saab flipped over AA for two pair, but Losev had flopped trips with the 86, and they held through the 3 on the river. Saab was eliminated and Losev raked in the pot of over 2.3 million.
Michelle's run continues
With the board K659 raised to 300,000 and was called by Kido Pham and Ivan Demidov. The river was the 4 and Michelle bet 600,000. Pham folded quickly and after thinking it over, and after two minutes Demidov did the same. Michelle is now up to 5.8 million, while Demidov has a similar amound and Pham has under two million.
Marquis folds pocket kings
Craig Marquis raised to 115,000 and David Rheem and Chris Crilly made the call. The three checked the flop and on the turn the board was QJ43. Crilly bet 150,000 and Marquis raised to 375,000. Rheem folded, Crilly called and the dealer put out the Q for the river. Crilly moved all in for 725,000 and after a few minutes Marquis reluctantly folded. He said he had pocket kings, and that the river was "the sickest card" to come on the river.

 Phil Hellmuth’s Penalty Disappears
During the final minutes of last night’s play, Phil Hellmuth berated Christian Dragomir after he won a pot with 104 and cracked Hellmuth’s ace-king. Although the hand occurred at the end of the night, Hellmuth was assessed a one-orbit penalty to be administered during the first orbit of today’s play.
As the official “shuffle up and deal” announcement was made to start off the day, Hellmuth took his seat at the ESPN featured table and received cards on the first hand and continued to on all subsequent hands of the orbit. An inquiry by our reporting team was answered with an explanation that the penalty had been “overruled.” World Series of Poker media director Nolan Dalla informed our tournament reporting team that a statement would be released regarding the overruling within one hour.
Phil won three of the first nine “penalty” hands at his table, bringing well-needed improvement to his struggling chip stack. He quickly rose to more than 1.5 million in chips.
Update: This morning Phil Hellmuth met with Jack Effel, WSOP Tournament Director, Howard Greenbaum, Harrah's Regional Vice President for Specialty Gaming, and Jeffrey Pollack, Commissioner of the WSOP. Based on that meeting and an official review of the situation, it was decided that the penalty imposed on Mr. Hellmuth at the conclusion of play last night was excessive.
"Warnings and penalties are intended to correct inappropriate behavior and our rulings should be as fair as possible, given the circumstances," said Pollack. "In this instance, the punishment did not fit the crime.
"Phil has now been warned and put on notice in a way that he never has been."
Sawaqdeh out in 74th place ($77,200), Crilly triples
Preflop, Jamal Sawaqdeh limped in from early position, and then Jamal Kunbuz raised to 125,000. Chris Crilly called from the small blind and Sawaqdeh called as well. After a 764 flop Crilly moved all in. Then Sawaqdeh quickly called all in, and after a minute Kunbuz called. Kunbuz had them both covered and when the cards were flipped up was a big favorite after the flop.

As far as the percentages go, Kunbuz went from worst to first on the turn, and then held on when the river was dealt. He nearly tripled up and now has roughly 2.7 million chips. Kunbuz droped to under two million chips after the hand.

Flops were hard to come by in the first hour of play at table 4. The first seven hands resulted in late position raises and folds from blinds, and twice Alex Outhred was able to announce all-in after an early position raise, and got his opponents to fold. But then two consecutive hands resulted in a significant chip shift, as well as the first elimination of the day.
Bad Way to Start the Day
Justin Scott raised from early position to 90,000, and table chip leader Nikolay Losev made the call from the small blind. The flop came K62, and after Losev checked, Scott bet 175,000. Losev made the call, and after the Q came on the turn, both players checked. The 6 paired the board on the river, and Losev took the initiative by betting 350,000. Scott made the call and showed AK, but the free river had allowed Losev to hit trips with the A6 and he added to his chip stack.
Scott ran into trouble later in the level as well. He raised to 90,000 preflop and was called by David Saab in the big blind. The Q94 came on board, and both players checked. The 3 was the turn card and again both players checked. The 5 hit the river, and Saab stepped out for a 150,000 bet. Scott called, then mucked when Saab showed him the 88.
Saab Forces First Elimination
The first elimination of the day came courtesy David Saab who raised to 100,000 from the cut-off. Mike Matros then moved all-in from the small blind for 680,000 and Saab called. Saab held 33 while Matros had two overcards with the A7. The flop came paired with the JJ6, giving Matros further outs, as did the 9 on the turn. But the river was a brick, the 4, and Matros was eliminated.

Action folded around to Phongthep Thiptinnakon who moved in for 115,000. Action folded to Nicholas Sliwinski in the big blind. He insta-called and showed AK. Thiptinnakon’s KQ was dominated and when the board came A647A he was eliminated. That infusion of chips lifts Sliwinski to almost 800,000.
Ylon Schwartz Joins The Million Chip Club
On a board of JJ7, Edward Roger had to decide whether or not to call Ylon Schwartz’s bet of 309,000. After quiet and careful deliberation, Roger made the call. The two showed their hands:

Roger: 88
The turn was the J, sealing the hand for Schwarz. With that pot, Schwartz jumps to just over one million in chips. Roger is still more than healthy with about 750,000.
David Saab Hits Alan Jaffray Hard
An important hand occurred in the last level that we just got wind of via David Saab:
Action folded around to Helge Pederen in the cutoff who raised to 18,000. Alan Jaffray called on the button. David Saab, in the small blind, made it 60k to go after a bit of hesitation. Pedersen laid down his hand and action was back on Jaffray. Jaffray, perhaps suspicious of Saab (who had squeezed earlier), raised to 300k. Saab then moved all-in for another 500,000 and Jaffray made the call. Saab showed A-K and his hand held up against Jaffray’s A-9 offsuit. That hand decimated Jaffray’s stack, and he would be eliminated a short time later.
Saab now sits as one of the chip leaders with 1.7 million.
'Raptor' Swoops in for a Monster
David “Raptor” Benefield swept in with such precision, Eric Tom never knew what hit him. There was a raise to 24,000 from a player in early position, and Tom smooth-called from middle position. The player in front of the cut-off made the call as well, and Benefield in the small blind called to create a four-way pot, as James McManus in the big blind folded. The flop came 875, and after two checks, Tom stepped out for 100,000. Play was folded to Benefield, who called. The J hit the turn, and after Benefield checked, Tom announced all-in for 320,000. Benefield snap-called and showed the bad news – 96 in his hand for the nut straight plus a flush draw. Tom, with his QQ, was drawing dead as the 3 hit the river, and Benefield scooped in the monster 980,000 pot.
Queens Work for Qiu
Unlike Tom, the red ladies worked for Andrew Qiu. He was all-in for 149,000 with QQ against the AK of Terry Lade. The board ran out 95329 and Qiu doubled up.
Billirakis Bounces Marcon
Marco Marcon announced all-in from middle position for 113,000, and play was folded to Steve Billarakis in the small blind who made the call. Marcon held 77 while Billirakis held A10. Marcon watched as an ace flopped, coming A99, and never caught up with the 8 on the turn and 2 on the river.
Matusow Doubles Through Keller with Aces
On a flop of 983, Mike Matusow shipped in his remaining 271,000 into a pot already containing over 100,000 in chips. His opponent, Thomas Keller, went into the tank and deliberated for several minutes while considering his options. After counting out the necessary amount for a call, Keller announced as much and turned over 1010. Matusow stood up and pumped his fists into the air as he flipped over AA. After Matusow settled down, the dealer put down the K on the turn. “A jack would have been more interesting,” commented Gus Hansen, who wandered over from his nearby table to watch the action and brought a burst of laughter from the spectators. “I mean, for me. I’m just passing by,” he added. The 2 fell on the river, and Matusow won a large pot bringing his stack to almost 700,000. Keller was crippled and left with under 200,000 in chips.
Cantu bluffs to take down huge pot of over 700k
With the board 1010Q2, the small blind checked and then Brandon Cantu bet 125,000 from the button. The small blind thought it over for a long time before raising to 275,000. Cantu immediately asked how many chips he had left. When he heard about 350,000 he moved all in. The small blind folded and Cantu jumped out of his seat and flipped over AJ. Mike Matusow, who recently doubled up, turned around and took a look at the table. "Did you check-raise bluff Brandon?" Matusow asked. "You should have moved all in then. You have no idea how sick he is?"

Phil Hellmuth’s Penalty Disappears
During the final minutes of last night’s play, Phil Hellmuth berated Christian Dragomir after he won a pot with 104 and cracked Hellmuth’s ace-king. Although the hand occurred at the end of the night, Hellmuth was assessed a one-orbit penalty to be administered during the first orbit of today’s play.
As the official “shuffle up and deal” announcement was made to start off the day, Hellmuth took his seat at the ESPN featured table and received cards on the first hand and continued to on all subsequent hands of the orbit. An inquiry by our reporting team was answered with an explanation that the penalty had been “overruled.” World Series of Poker media director Nolan Dalla informed our tournament reporting team that a statement would be released regarding the overruling within one hour.
Phil won three of the first nine “penalty” hands at his table, bringing well-needed improvement to his struggling chip stack. He quickly rose to more than 1.5 million in chips.
Update: This morning Phil Hellmuth met with Jack Effel, WSOP Tournament Director, Howard Greenbaum, Harrah's Regional Vice President for Specialty Gaming, and Jeffrey Pollack, Commissioner of the WSOP. Based on that meeting and an official review of the situation, it was decided that the penalty imposed on Mr. Hellmuth at the conclusion of play last night was excessive.
"Warnings and penalties are intended to correct inappropriate behavior and our rulings should be as fair as possible, given the circumstances," said Pollack. "In this instance, the punishment did not fit the crime.
"Phil has now been warned and put on notice in a way that he never has been."
Sawaqdeh out in 74th place ($77,200), Crilly triples
Preflop, Jamal Sawaqdeh limped in from early position, and then Jamal Kunbuz raised to 125,000. Chris Crilly called from the small blind and Sawaqdeh called as well. After a 764 flop Crilly moved all in. Then Sawaqdeh quickly called all in, and after a minute Kunbuz called. Kunbuz had them both covered and when the cards were flipped up was a big favorite after the flop.

As far as the percentages go, Kunbuz went from worst to first on the turn, and then held on when the river was dealt. He nearly tripled up and now has roughly 2.7 million chips. Kunbuz droped to under two million chips after the hand.

Flops were hard to come by in the first hour of play at table 4. The first seven hands resulted in late position raises and folds from blinds, and twice Alex Outhred was able to announce all-in after an early position raise, and got his opponents to fold. But then two consecutive hands resulted in a significant chip shift, as well as the first elimination of the day.
Bad Way to Start the Day
Justin Scott raised from early position to 90,000, and table chip leader Nikolay Losev made the call from the small blind. The flop came K62, and after Losev checked, Scott bet 175,000. Losev made the call, and after the Q came on the turn, both players checked. The 6 paired the board on the river, and Losev took the initiative by betting 350,000. Scott made the call and showed AK, but the free river had allowed Losev to hit trips with the A6 and he added to his chip stack.
Scott ran into trouble later in the level as well. He raised to 90,000 preflop and was called by David Saab in the big blind. The Q94 came on board, and both players checked. The 3 was the turn card and again both players checked. The 5 hit the river, and Saab stepped out for a 150,000 bet. Scott called, then mucked when Saab showed him the 88.
Saab Forces First Elimination
The first elimination of the day came courtesy David Saab who raised to 100,000 from the cut-off. Mike Matros then moved all-in from the small blind for 680,000 and Saab called. Saab held 33 while Matros had two overcards with the A7. The flop came paired with the JJ6, giving Matros further outs, as did the 9 on the turn. But the river was a brick, the 4, and Matros was eliminated.
