Level 7 Update: Layne Flack GoneMay 30, '10 Blinds: 150-300 with a 25 ante Players Remaining: 450 out of 4,345 Notable Eliminations: Layne Flack Card Player Chip Counts: Stephen A. Murphy – 7,000 Big Hands: Layne Flack Runs Into Full House and Sent Packing This hand happened right before the dinner break. Layne Flack held A-5 against his opponents pocket kings on an A K Q flop. Flack raised his opponents bet and got the rest of his money in when another A fell on the turn. The river bricked off for Flack and he was sent home. Mark Seif Finds a Four Neil Crilly raised to 900 from under-the-gun and was called by Mark Seif and the player in the small blind. The flop was J89 and after the small blind checked, Crilly bet 2,200 and was met with a raise to 6,000 from Seif. The small blind folded and Crilly shoved for only a few hundred more. Seif made the call and saw the trouble he was in. Crilly held KK and was way ahead of Seif’s 44. The turn was the Q, but the 4 on the river gave Seif a set and sent Crilly to the rail with a bad beat story. Seif continued his aggressive preflop play as he three-bet the very next hand and made his opponent lay his hand down. Seif is up to 25,000 in chips and seems to be very confident. The Master Chops Pot, But Eliminates Opponent There was some preflop action that led to a player being all in wit two callers, one of them being Men Nguyen. The flop was A98 and both Nguyen and the other player checked. The turn was the 8 and there was a bet of 1,000 which was called by Nguyen. The river was the K and now the other player in the hand checked and Nguyen bet 3,800. The dealer announced to the other player that the bet was 2,800 and the player called. The pot was chopped as Nguyen showed AJ and the other player had AQ. “You got lucky,” joked Nguyen. “You would have folded for 3,800.” The other player assured him he was calling and they moved on to the next hand. Kent Washington Eliminates a Player Kent Washington was in the small blind with about 23,000. Action was folded to a player in the cutoff who just limped in. Washington called the additional 150 and the big blind shoved for 4,400. The cutoff quickly folded and Washington went into the tank. He eventually made the call and exposed the 44, which was racing against the A8 of the big blind. The board ran out KK1035, as the fours held up. Washington is healthy with 28,000. Lee Markholt Doubles Up a Player Lee Markholt (about 13,000 in chips) called a 3,000 all in from an opponent preflop. Markholt tabled the A9 and was slightly ahead of the KJ of his opponent. Markholt’s opponent turned a king and it held, leaving the poker pro with 10,000 in chips. Interesting Chop We caught up with the action on the river here, after an unknown player open shipped with the 98 and was called by the KK of another player. The board at the end was A-2-2-2-2 for quads, ace high. Both players chopped the pot. A player at the table remarked, “you see that once every few years.” If you are curious about the odds of 98 chopping with pocket kings on a flop of A-2-2 (no diamonds), check out CardPlayer.com’s odds calculator. It turns out that 9-8 chops 0.71% of the time and wins 0.61% of the time. Player Tags: Mark Seif, Lee Markholt, Men Nguyen, Kent Washington Level 17 Update: Master's Stack GrowsMay 31, '10 Blinds: 3,000-6,000 with a 500 ante Players Remaining: 77 out of 4,345 Average Chip Count: 146,460 Tournament Leaderboard: 1. Drew Crawford – 640,000 Notable Eliminations: Lee Markholt – $3,988 Big Hands: The Master Finds Aces, a Voice, and a Double Up It seemed like all of a sudden, Men “The Master” Nguyen had all of his chips in the middle preflop and was called by his opponent. His opponent had AK and Nguyen had AA. The board ran out 58329, giving Nguyen the pot and doubling him up to 205,000. The double up came right as one of his Coronas were arriving to the table. “All you can eat baby,” said Nguyen as he was taking his drink from the waiter. Nguyen has been quite talkative since the newly acquired chips. Lee Markholt Eliminated Lee Markholt’s dwindling stack got into the middle with KJ and was up against his opponent’s AQ. The board was 337910 and Markholt was eliminated. Elpayaa Runs Into Rockets Joe Elpayaa got almost all of his chips in the middle after a raising war preflop. Elpayaa turned over QQ and his opponent showed him AA The board was queen-less for Elpayaa and he was crippled with less than 10,000. He was eliminated a few hands later and. Chris Bjorin Eliminated Chris Bjorin open shipped for 48,500 and was called by an opponent. Bjorin tabled the AJ and was up against the pocket nines of his opponent. Bjorin failed to improve and was eliminated. Player Tags: Chris Bjorin, Lee Markholt, Joseph Elpayaa Level 15 Update: Jordan Morgan and Jon Friedberg EliminatedMay 31, '10 Blinds: 1,500-3,000 with a 400 ante Players Remaining: 137 out of 4,345 Average Chip Count: 95,145 Card Player Chip Counts: Jon Friedberg – out Tournament Leaderboard: 1. Thomas Joanides moved in from the big blind for 1,300 more. Markholt made the easy call and tabled the J4 while his opponent exposed the 98. The board ran out K9264, and Markholt lost the pot to fall to 60,000. Joanides is at 21,000. Kevin Stammen Doubles Up Kevin Stammen found all of his 30,800 chips in the middle preflop and showed JJ. His opponent showed the AJ. The board came out Q7Q92 and Stammen doubled up to 66,000. Jordan’s Kings Cracked, Eliminated Jordan Morgan raised in the cutoff and the player in the cutoff moved all-in for 60,000. Morgan quickly called with KK and the small blind showed Q10. The flop was 88J,giving the small blind a straight draw. The turn bricked but the river was the 9 filling the straight draw and sending Morgan out the door. Eric Baldwin Knocks Out Jon Friedberg We got to the table pretty late, but Jon Friedberg was all-in with pocket tens, but was trumped by Eric Baldwins A-Q. Jared Hamby Eliminates Two Players Jared Hamby was dealt the AA and was all in against an opponent and a third player who was very short stacked. The opponent that had both Hamby and the short stack covered held A-Q, while the short stack held Q-7. The aces held and Hamby is now at 120,000 in chips. Player Tags: Lee Markholt, Thomas Joanides, Jon Friedberg, Jared Hamby, Dan Lu Level 14 Update: Corwin Cole EliminatedMay 31, '10 Blinds: 1,000-2,000 with a 300 ante Players Remaining: 188 out of 4,345 Average Chip Count: 69,335 Card Player Chip Counts: Jon Friedberg – 46,000 Tournament Leaderboard: 1. The flop of AK2 offered no help. The 8 also was no help. However, the 9 on the river gave Baldwin the pot and 70,000 in chips. Corwin Cole Eliminated Corwin Cole moved all in with the A9 and was called by an opponent who held pocket nines. The board ran dry for Cole and he was gone. Aguiar’s Kings Cracked Jon Aguiar three-bet an opponent with the KK and was delighted to call the four-bet all-in of his opponent. His opponent showed JJ and was way behind. That was until the flop came JQ3. The turn was the 4 and the river was the 6 and Aguiar’s stack fell to the 60,000 area. Markholt Goes From Zero to Hero in a Matter of Minutes After a raise to 11,000 and a call, Lee Markholt tossed his last 9,100 into the middle. The fop came A82 and one of the players shoved all-in and caused the other player to fold. It seemed that as soon as Markholt turned over his pocket nines, the 9 fell on the turn to give him a set and the 8 on the river gave a full house and pot. Only a few hands later after tripling up to around 35,000 he found all his chips in the middle preflop with pocket aces against the A-Q of his opponent. His aces held and went from 9,100 to 70,000 in a matter of 10 minutes. Tyner insta-called and tabled the AA. Her opponent exposed the QQ and the two players saw a flop of K107. All was good for Tyner until the Q spiked on the turn, giving her opponent a set of queens. The river bricked for Tyner and she was down to 125,000 after the hand. Tim Phan Runs a Bluff and Sent Home On the turn, the board read K536 and Tim Phan bet 9,000 and after a few moments of deliberation was called by his opponent.
