It's About Time
Jun 07, '07
After losing 1,300 players in less than ten hours of play, it has taken almost two hours to lose one. The bubble has finally burst after just under two hours of hand for hand play. Oleg Potseluev was the 127th place finisher and his elimination brought out the relieved applause from the tournament field. Potseluev was all in with 9-5 against an opponent with 10-5. The board came K-Q-10-7-Q and Potseluev was eliminated on the bubble.
Hand for hand play lasted for so long because many players were short stacked and laying down monster hands. One player in the field said he laid down kings against a preflop raise because he wanted to make the money. A number of players had only one $500 chip or a few $100 chips and were simply hoping to dodge the blinds and survive the antes long enough to sneak into the money. Following the bubble elimination with 12 minutes left in the round, 17 players quickly made their exit and trimmed the field down to 110.
The players are on a short break and will return in 15 minutes. Many players elected not to leave the tournament area, eager to finally be able to play some cards after the long drought of action to get in the money.
