Stud specialist and Commerce Casino host Bob Golick took a day off from his duties as a prop player to try his hand at the $300 7-card Stud tournament at the L.A. Poker Classic. Afterall, he had managed a runner-up finish the year before, so he thought he could make another deep run in the $300 event and maybe score a small cash in the process. Little did he know that he'd tear through the tournament, eventually finishing in first place and pocketing $14,077.

The win was a nice change of pace for Golick, who rarely ventures upstairs for tournaments now that the hold'em craze has fully caught on. Just two weeks later, the Commerce was hosting yet another 7-card Stud tournament, this one with a $500 buy-in. As if he'd never left the room in the first place, Golick ran his stack up and won that tournament too, for another $14,718.

Feeling the rush of playing solid poker, Golick took a shot with the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship, looking for a fun experience and maybe even a deep run at the final table if the cards were on his side. Three days later Golick had scored a sixth place finish and another $52,531.

Todd Brunson Eliminated

Todd Brunson was all in against Justin Bonomo, Erik Seidel and Bob Golick. Golick got the rest of chips in on fifth street and Seidel and Bonomo checked it down.

Brunson missed his draw and stood up from the table, Bonomo missed his club flush and low draws and could only show a pair of eights. Seidel shook his head and mucked and Golick turned over the wheel, which almost quadrupled him up to 27,000 in chips.

Bob Golick Eliminated in Sixth Place ($52,531)

Bob Golick was eliminated in sixth place when he found himself all in against Jeff Madsen, who held a straight. Neither player qualified low and Golick was eliminated from the tournament in sixth place ($52,531). This continues a successful run at the 2009 LAPC for Golick, who has won two events, both the $300 and $500 seven-card stud preliminaries.

Amnon raised preflop to 12,000 and Bob Golick called him down. The flop was dealt 952 and Filippi bet 12,000. Golick made the call and the turn brought the K. The river fell 6 and Golick bet 24,000. Filippi made the call and Golick turned up 5432. Filippi mucked and Golick took down the pot. These two players have been on divergent paths as of late, with Golick climbing the leader board and Filippi starting to feel the strain of rising blinds and limits with a short stack.

Steve Billirakis got the last of his chips into the middle on fourth street with pocket fours exposed. John Monnette mucked with Q-5 showing, and Bob Golick made the call with 8-A exposed. The two final players then turned up their hands and the dealer finished off the hand:

Golick won the hand and Billirakis was eliminated in 10th place, two spots shy of the money.

Howard Lederer Eliminated

Howard Lederer got it all in on fourth street holding a pair of aces and then improved to aces and kings on fifth. Bob Golick was far behind with his pair of eights, but caught a trips on sixth street to send Lederer home in 16th place.
