Tino Lechich - 145,000
Eliminations:
Sorel Mizzi
Scott Clements
J.C. Tran
Gavin Griffin
Big Hands and Storylines:
Tournament director to table 5, again
To say that some of the players at table 5 are angry with one another would be an understatement. Early in the level, with Rami Boukai already all in, Sorel Mizzi bet enough on the river to put Nikolay Evdakov all in. The board was 10-8-5-J-K, and Evdakov took, according to players at his table, over 15 minutes before Mizzi called the clock. Boukai had already stormed out of the Amazon Room when the director ruled Evdakov's hand dead. At that point Mizzi said to call Boukai and tell him the main pot is his. Mizzi showed two nines and a missed draw and took the substantially larger side pot while people around him called him a sicko.
The rest of the level tensions were high at the table. Mizzi and other players called the clock often on Evdakov and another player. At one point players wanted to see a player's hole cards to know if he truly had a decision or was stalling. To end the day's play, a huge pot developed between Mizzi, Evdakov and Faniel Makowsky after a QJ9 flop. Mizzi bet, Makowsky raised pot, and after Evdakov folded he immediately called the clock on Mizzi out of spite. Mizzi then moved all in and Makowsky called.
Mizzi: JJQ8
Makowsky: AKT4
Board: QJ9AT
Makowsky's straight took down the pot and gave him the chip lead, while Mizzi headed to the rail, though not before saying something to Evdakov.
Shulman doubles up through Forrest
On a board of 10936, Jeff Shulman moved all in for just 2,200 and was called by Ted Forrest. Shulman held two nines for a set, while Forrest held K-Q-9-4 and needed a jack to catch a straight. The river was the 2 and Shulman doubled up to 35,000 chips. Forrest finished the day with about 160,000 chips.
Griffin loses to quads, eliminated soon after
In the blinds, Gavin Griffin and Jerrod Ankenman ended up playing a huge pot. With the board J-8-5-5, Ankenman check-raised and then moved all in when a nine came on the river. Griffin called and lost out to Ankenman's pocket fives for four of a kind. The blow didn't quite knock Griffin out, but soon afterward he was heading for the exit.
Flack gets revenge
After Steve Ware doubled up through Layne Flack with a set against two pair, the two were at it again. With the board showing Q424, Ware bet 33,000 and was called, and then bet a similar amount again when the 7 came on the turn. Flack called again and Ware showed A-Q. Flack held K-K-A-J and took down the pot.

14th – Thomas Wahlroos
15th – Tino Lechich
16th – Nathan Doudney
17th – Jerrod Ankenman
18th – Steve Saris
Big Hands and Storylines:
Kyle Kloeckner Eliminates Nathan Doudney
Tim West Raised to 35,000 pre-flop and was called by Kyle Kloeckner, Nathan Hagens, and Nathan Doudney. On a flop of 633, West checked, Kloeckner checked, and Hagens checked. When action came around to Doudney, he didn’t think for too long before betting 100,000. West quickly folded, but Klockner, perhaps suspecting Doudney of a steal, raised to 300,000. Hagens folded and Doudney quickly moved all-in for his final 60,000. Kloeckner, priced in, made the call with KJJ9. Doudney turned over a full house: 6375. Kloeckner, drawing to only a jack, had scarcely asked his tablemates if any of them had folded a jack when the dealer flipped up the turn: J! Things had turned upside-down for Doudney and now he was looking for the last trey in the deck to win the pot. Not only was the river not the case trey to save Doudney, but it was the case jack.
I guess that answers Kloeckner’s question.
After raking in the pot and stacking his chips, it appears that Kloeckner is our new chip leader with 865,000.
Thomas Wahlroos Eliminates Tino Lechich
Thomas Wahlroos raised to 35,000 pre-flop and Francisco Azares made it 110,000. Tino Lechich said, “Alright. You’ve got one.” Before moving his final 50,000 all-in. Wahlroos chimed in, “You’ve got two,” and, covered by Azares’s bet, moved all-in. The three revealed their hands:
Azares: KK52
Lechich: AKJJ
Wahlroos: AA102
The flop was a very safe one for Wahlroos: 993. The turn 6 was nearly as innocuous, though it gave Azares a gutshot straight-draw. When the river blanked, Wahlroos was jolted up to 190,000 while Azares was left with only 90,000; Azares would be eliminated only a short time later.
Michael Guzzardi Eliminates Thomas Wahlroos
Michael Guzzardi raised to 25,000 from early position and was called by three players: Thomas Wahlroos in late position, and Layne Flack and Kevin O’Donnell in the blinds. The flop came Q106 and the blinds checked. Guzzardi bet 65,000 and Wahlroos almost instantly moved his stack of 163,000 into the pot. Flack insta-folded but O’Donnell had a much tougher decision to make. “I wish I knew the math like you guys. I should have gone to school,” said O’Donnell. Eventually O’Donnell folded, and that decision turned out to be the right one as Guzzardi called and showed AJ87 for the nut flush. Wahlroos showed QQ77 for top set, and was hoping to fill up on a later street. Unfortunately for Wahlroos the turn and river came 8 and 2 and, not long after his double-up, he was eliminated. Guzzardi now has 810,000 in chips.

Kloeckner Takes a Hit
On a flop of Q46, Kyle Kloeckner pushed 21,000 into the pot. Django Young raised all in and Kloeckner made the call. Both players then turned up their hands.
Kloeckner: AA710
Young: QQA6
Young flopped a set of ladies, turning Kloeckner's bullets. Young also had one of Kloeckner's outs in the A. The turn was the 6 and the river brought the case 6, doubling up Young with his queens full house. Kloeckner was down to 280,000.
Ankenmann Sends One Packing
Jerrod Ankenman called Varahram Vardjavand's all in bet and the players turned over their hands.
Ankenman: AA98
Vardjavand: AA62
Both players showed aces, so their other cards would likely decide the pot. The flop came J87, giving Ankenman a gutshot straight draw. The turn made his straight when the 10 showed up. The river was the 8 and Akenman knocked out a player and improved his stack to 270,000.
Fernandez Takes a Pot
The player in seat 5 raised to 10,000 and Jacobo Fernandez made the call. The flop came down A73. Seat 5 checked and Fernandez bet 5,000. His opponent called and the turn was the Q. Both players checked and the river brought the 6. Both players checked again and then they turned their hands.
Fernandez: QQ88
Seat 5: 1010AJ
Fernandez turned a set of queens and took down the pot.

Rob Hollink made it 20,000 to go from middle position. Brock “t soprano” Parker, on Hollink’s left, upped it to 30,000. Then, to Parker’s left, Kieu Duong moved in for 34,000. As if this wasn’t enough action, Andy Bloch popped it up to 40,000. Both Hollink and Parker called. The flop was 1074; Hollink checked, Parker checked, Bloch bet, and the other two called. The action followed the same pattern on the J turn. Bloch bet the 5 on the river and this time both Hollink and Parker folded. Bloch’s pocket kings were enough to take down the massive pot and Duong was eliminated.
Tex is Toast
Tex Barch was eliminated in 17th place when his AQ failed to hold against Jerrod Ankenman’s AT. The board rolled out 102284 and Barch unhappily called down to the river, giving away the last of his chips. Though Barch's night is through, Ankenman is very much in contention with his 330,000.
Matt Woodward Eliminated in 16thPlace
Matt Woodward was all-in pre-flop against J.C. Tran. Tran, on the button, showed an understandably weak 87 and was chasing against Woodward’s AQ. Woodward remained stoic on the J53 flop, but his demeanor changed to reflect the 8 on the turn; he rolled his eyes and nodded his head in a resigned fashion. The K on the river sealed Woodward’s exit and he was eliminated in 16th place, taking home $25,615.

Big Hands and Storylines:
Corkins Eliminated in 21st Place
Apparently Aaron Katz doesn’t have premium hands all the time. Hoyt Corkins found this out the hard way when his QQ was cracked by Katz’s 65 on a JT63K board. Katz, who won a $1,500 limit hold’em event in 2004, is on an excellent track to claim his second bracelet. He is currently the chip leader with 530,000.
Thomas Johnston Eliminated in 20th Place
Thomas Johnston declared his “pot-committedness” before the hand as almost his entire stack would be consumed by the big blind. He was still in good spirits as he saw Jerrod Ankenman and Tex Barch cap the betting pre-flop. The flop was AJ5 and both Barch and Ankenman checked. Barch bet the J turn and Ankenman folded. The river was the 5c. When Barch showed AA Johnston, having not looked at his cards claimed, “I could have pocket jacks.” He flipped his cards one at a time. The first was the 5, eliciting a roar from the table. Unfortunately for Johnston, his second card was the 10 and he had to go, eliminated in 20th place.
Hollink Continues to Straighten Out
Eric Froehlich raised from middle position and the only caller was Rob Hollink in the big blind. The flop was 1087 and Hollink check-called a bet from Froehlich. The turn was a 6 and Hollink checked. “EFro” bet and the man from Groningen put out a raise. Froehlich called and the pair saw the 4 river. Hollink bet and Froehlich called. The two showed:
Hollink: A9
Froehlich: AA
Hollink’s second straight in as many levels has him up to 250,000, coincidentally, the same amount as Froehlich.

Big Hands and Storylines:
Katz True To His Word
Aaron Katz has been talking constantly about how he has yet to show down a bad hand, and, in a pot against Jerrod Ankenman, he backed up his banter. Ankenman raised from middle position and Katz re-raised on his left to 1,800. Action folded back around to Ankenman who made the call. Ankenman check-raised the AJ3 flop and Katz called. Ankenman bet the J turn and Katz cagily raised, drawing a call from Ankenman. The dealer put out the 3 on the river and Ankenman check-called. Katz tabled AK and took down the pot. Maybe next time someone at the table will respect Katz’s raise. Until then, Katz will be sitting behind a stack of 320,000 chips. Ankenman still has 250,000.
Hanging Around
Andy Bloch raised from the small blind and Tommy Hang in the big blind called. Hang raised Bloch’s bet on the Q52 flop and Bloch called. Action on the turn and river – K and 3 – went check-bet-call, and Hang won the pot with two pair, showing KQ. Hang has now climbed to 180,000 while Bloch, still the chip leader, is down to 350,000
River Dagger Cripples Lawrence
Rob Hollink raised from late position and the only caller was Spencer Lawrence in the big blind. The flop came Q95 and Lawrence bet out. Hollink raised, Lawrence 3-bet, and Hollink just called. The A on the turn was followed by a bet by Lawrence and another call by Hollink. Lawrence bet the river and the Dutchman raised him. After a minute of thought, Lawrence made the call. Hollink tabled the nuts: JT. After the hand Lawrence was left with only 20,000 while Hollink grew his stack to 165,000.

Average Stack: 167,700
Eliminations:
Alex Kravchenko - 27th
Tim Kasparoff - 28th
Zachary Hyman - 29th
Big Hands and Storylines:
They’re In The Money
The bubble burst after only 5 hands of hand-for-hand play and the unfortunate bubble boy was Tim Kasparoff. Kasparoff got his money all-in against Tommy Hang in a race-situation: Kasparoff’s 88 against Hang’s A10. The flop was 432, opening up 4 more outs for Hang, but he wouldn’t need them, as he spiked the 10 on the turn. The river blanked and Kasparoff busted one out of the money.
This was welcome news to both Patrick Bueno and Alex Kravchenko who, seated at the same table, had been blinded down to critical levels. In one hand, Bueno committed 15,000 preflop against Michael Mizrachi and folded to a single bet from “the Grinder” on the flop, leaving himself a paltry 9,000.
Kravchenko too was spendthrift during hand-for-hand play. Folding both his small blind and big blind to raises, the Russian was left clutching a stack of only 6,000 when the bubble burst. Not surprisingly, he was eliminated in 27th place, but I’m sure the $20,492 will be consolation enough after coming so close to busting empty-handed.
Not everybody was trying to crawl into the money. Aaron Katz and Matt Woodward tangled in a big pot a few minutes before hand-for-hand play began. Woodward raised to 10,000 from middle position and Katz called in the big blind. Katz check-raised the J33 flop and Woodward paid to see the turn. It was the K and Katz bet out, though Woodward raised, Katz was not deterred, putting in a third bet. Woodward called, then called another bet on the river 7. He was dismayed when Katz showed A3 and dragged the massive pot.
Woodward would make a bit of that money back later when the flop nailed his Q8. Zachary Hyman, holding JJ, could not lay down his holding on a board of QQ9 and was eliminated in 29th place.

Eliminations:
Erick Lindgren
Justin Bonomo
Thomas Wahlroos
Big Hands and Storylines:
Parker Busts Bonomo
Despite doubling up a few hands earlier against Eric Froehlich, Justin Bonomo would see all of his chips disappear against Brock “t soprano” Parker. Rob Hollink raised from the cutoff and Bonomo, with only 15,000 total chips, raised it up. Parker 4-bet from the big blind, Hollink called, and Bonomo tossed his final few chips in. Hollink called Parker’s bet on the J62 flop, but folded to a second-barrel on the 2 turn. With that, Parker took down the small side pot, but he still needed to best Bonomo’s holding in order to claim the sizeable main pot. Parker showed AK, and ace-king high was well ahead of Bonomo’s A9. The river was the 7 and Bonomo found himself out 10 places before the money.
Spencer Lawrence Giveth, and Spencer Lawrence Taketh Away
Thomas Wahlroos was all-in for his final 11,500 against Spencer Lawrence. Lawrence had a meager Q7, but was racing against the Finn’s 55. The board was a safe one for Wahlroos – K629K – and he raked in a pot of 27,000. That relief was short-lived however. Although their table was broken when they reached 36 players, the duo found themselves seated together once again at a new table. It was here that Lawrence’s pocket nines would hold up against Wahlroos’s pocket sevens. Wahlroos, who had earlier been commiserating with Rob Hollink about bubbling in tournaments, has a new story to add to his collection.
Musical Chairs
Another significant result of having a table break was that Brock Parker took a seat to J.C. Tran’s left. The duo have 500,000 chips between them, with Tran holding a 270k to 230k advantage over Parker. Despite having Parker outchipped, Tran can not be happy with this recent turn of events.
Muy Bueno
Patrick Bueno, chip leader at the start of the day, had seen his stack dwindle to a measly 20,000 before he found himself all-in on the A77 flop. Both he and his opponent had an ace, but Bueno’s queen kicker nipped his opponent’s ten. The turn and river blanked and Bueno found himself smiling again, brandishing a stack of 50,000.

Big Hands:
Cy Jassinowsky Doubles Up
Tommy Hang raised and both Cy Jassinowsky and Jerrod Ankenman made the call. The flop came JJ7, and Hang bet. Jassinowsky and Ankenman both called. The turn was 5, and Hang bet out. Jassinowsky raised and Ankenman reraised (three bets). Hang folded and Jassinowsky reraied (four bets), Ankenman called. Down to his last couple of thousand chips, Jassinowsky moved all in dark. The river was the 8 and Ankenman called the all in dark bet. Jassinowsky turned over A-J while Ankenman showed K-J. Jassinowsky doubeld up this hand.

The turn was the 5, and once again Jassinowsky bet and Katz called. The river was the 5, and still Jassinowsky bet and Katz called. Jassinowsky turned over pocket aces and Katz threw his hand into the muck. Jassinowsky wins a big pot for over 200,000 shortly after doubling up a few hands prior.
Broc Parker Doubles Through Cy Jassinowsky
Brock Parker raised and Cy Jassinowsky reraised. Parker made it three-bets to go and Jassinowsky just called. The flop came J102, and Jassinowsky checked to Parker who bet. Jassinowsky raised (check-raise) and Parker moved all in. Jassinowsky called and the players turned over their hands.

Money Bubble Breaks... In Level Three
Jun 12, '07
The special format for this tournament makes it unique in that it is one of the only tournaments with 900 entrant in which you can make the money in less than three hours. Jerrod Ankenman took down Table 5 after only two hours and twenty minute. A few other tables have finished since, and around ten are heads up. Many of the players going heads up for a first round victory are pros. Joe Sebok, Erik Seidel, Barry Greenstein and Amnon Filippi are all heads up, and a number of other pros are among three handed tables.
Many other pros did not fare so well. Howard Lederer, Mark Seif, Jennifer Tilly, and recent 11-time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth Jr. were all eliminated in the past level.
Many tables have only recently gotten short-handed, but some heads up matches have been going for quite a while. Erik Seidel has been playing heads up for around an hour and a half now. He went into two-handed play with a chip disadvantage, bought has fought back and virtually erased the deficit. He raked in a sizable pot after betting $1,500 on the end with the board showing the K J 10 A J . After getting a call from his opponent, Seidel revealed the J J for quad jacks, and raked to pot while his opponent looked on, slightly shocked.
Make sure to check in for mour hourly updates here at Cardplayer.com.
