Rubie Battles Back to Close the Gap
Brendon Rubie came into heads-up play severely out chipped by more than 6:1 but managed to double up about halfway through the level to narrow the gap a bit. Rubie open-shoved the button with Q10 and got there on a J43Q9 board against Timothy Adams’ A8. Rubie turned top pair that hand to double up to over 1 million and then found another double up just a short while later to really start to even things out.
Timothy Adams opened the button for 60,000 and Brendon Rubie called from the big blind.
The flop came 1032, Rubie checked, Adams bet 30,000 and Rubie called.
The turn was the 9, this time Adams bet 80,000, Rubie moved all in and Adams called the check-raise.
Rubie was all in for his tournament life with 33 for a set on the flop and had Adams drawing dead on the river with A10 for top pair. Brendon Rubie doubled up to about 2,150,000 that hand while Adams dropped down to about 3.5 million.

Timothy Adams came into the last level right in the middle of the chip counts and found a huge double up through then chipleader Brendon Rubie to take the chip lead. Adams moved all in on a rag flop with AK and Rubie called with 109. Neither player connected with the board and Adams doubled up to over 3.6 million that hand, taking the chip lead and knocking Rubie down to a distant second place with just about 1.1 million. Adams took a chunk out of Schaaf’s stack this level as well, and despite finding a double up late in the level, James Schaaf was the next player eliminated.

The flop came Q22, Schaff checked, Adams bet 57,000 and Schaaf called.
The turn was the Q, and both players checked.
The river was the Q, Schaaf bet 175,000, Adams shoved and Schaaf called all in for around 900,000. Schaaf showed 44 for a full house but Adams turned over 1010 for a better full house. James Schaaf was eliminated in 3rd place ($164,823) while Timothy Adams took a huge chip lead going into heads-up play with almost 4.9 million to Brendan Rubie’s 750,000
