Jul 01, '08
Play has ended for the evening. Of the 90 players who returned to play four levels in round two, only 18 were eliminated, though they included notables J.C. Tran, Andy Bloch, Allen Le, Terrence Chan, and John Myung.
Players return to continue play at 2 p.m. Wednesday, and the final table will commence one hour after the final table has been concluded in round two.
Blinds: 500/1000
Limits: 1000/2000

Corkins Can't Connect
Hoyt Corkins raised to 2000 and drew calls from three players including both blinds. The flop came 442, and after both blinds checked Corkins bet out. He was raised by Eric Rivkin and made the call for 2000. The 8 was the turn card and Corkins check-called for another 2000. The board double-paired on the river with the 8 coming down, which was enough to slow both players. Corkins showed AK, his ace the kicker with two pair on board. But Rivkin held 77 for a better two pair and took down the pot.
Kranyak Continues to Splash Around
John Kranyak didn't like a couple of rivers that developed in hands for him in the last level, but he still raked in the chips. In the first hand, Kranyak raised to 2000 preflop and Colin Miners then bumped it to 3000 to result in a heads-up battle. The flop came AQQ, and Kranyak would check-call the bet of Miners. The turn brought the J and both players checked. The board double-paired on the river with the J, and Kranyak checked. Miners bet 2000 and Kranyak moaned as he called, believing the double-paired board meant his K10 for the nut straight was suddenly in second place. Yet it proved to be enough against Miner's A9.
Just two hands later Kranyak was in a battle with David Bach. The flop had come 753, followed by the Q on the turn. Kranyak bet 2000, Bach raised to 4000 and Kranyak reraised to 6000, which Bach called. A fourth diamond came on the river with the 2, and Kranyak bet again, with Bach calling. It was fortuitous for Kranyak, as he already had the nut flush holding A5. Bach mucked his cards.
Bloch Prolongs his Evening. . . Briefly
Andy Bloch was the button and called a raise to 2000 with his shortstack. The flop came QJJ and Bloch was check-raised by Craig Crivello for 2000 more. The 3 was the turn and both players committed another 2000, and Bloch then tossed in his final 500 chip after the 10 fell on the river. His Q6 for top pair proved enough to temporarily keep him alive at his table. But he was eliminated a few hands later.
Kim Nets Another Pot
Connie Kim raised to 2000 preflop, David Orvis made it 3000 and Kim then capped it at 4000. The flop came J73, which would prove bad news for Orvis. Kim bet, Orvis raised, and Kim went to 3000 before Orvis simply called. The Q hit the turn card and Orvis called another 2000 bet from Kim. The 4 on the river brought another 2000 bet and call, with Kim then showing AA for the overpair. Orvis held AJ, having flopped top pair. Yet at the end of the evening, Orvis would be chip leader at his table and Kim would be among those eliminated.

The final level of the night is being slightly delayed as tournament officials color up the back chips.
Blinds: 400/800
Limits: 800/1600
Big Hands
Top Pair Holds Up For Kranyak
John Kranyak raised to 1600, Jimmy Fricke reraised to 2400, and Mark Klecan capped it at 3200 from the button. Kranyak and Fricke both called. The flop came A83, and the first two players were happy to check to Klecan, who bet and drew two calls. The K came on the turn, and again after two checks Klecan bet out and was called, this time for 1600. The 5 came on the river, and this time all three players checked. Kranyak was the first to show, holding AJ, and it was enough to take down the pot.
Bellande Runs One Down
Rick Shephard raised to 1600 preflop and Jean-Robert Bellande next to act made it 2400 to go. Shephard called and the flop came 864. Shephard bet 800, Bellande raised, and Shephard threw in a reraise to 2400 that Bellande called. The 7 brought in more possibilities on the turn, and Shephard led out again with Bellande calling. The Q came on the river and Shephard slowed, checking to Bellande who bet 1600. He drew a call, and turned over A3 for the nut flush.
Kim Scoops a Monster
Coralee Grebe raised to 1600 under the gun, Craig Crivello reraised to 2400, and Connie Kim made it 3200 to play preflop. The three players saw the board come KJ7, Grebe bet 800 and both her opponents called. The 10 fell on the turn and Grebe bet 1600. Crivello called, then Kim raised things to 3200, which again both players called. The J paired the board on the river, and after two checks, Kim bet out for 1600. Grebe called, as did Crivello, and Kim flipped over the bad news, the AQ for the nut straight. Her opponents mucked.
James Survives All-in
Kenna James survived what may have been the first all-in adventure of the second round. He bet 1600 on the turn with the board showing A976. Stefan Rapp called, and James then bet all-in for 1000 when the 2 hit the river. Rapp called and James showed 77 for the set. It was enough to take the pot down.
Le Hits and Gets Action
Simen Sagstuen was in the small blind and play was folded to him, so he limp-called the big blind of Allen Le. Le put in the obligatory raise, Sagstuen called, and the game was on. The flop came Q84, and Sagstuen would check-call the bet of Le. The A came on the turn and again, Sagstuen check-called, this a 1600 bet from Le. Another bullet, the A, came on the river and Sagstuen would check-call once again. Le showed him the A5 and that was enough to take the pot down.
