Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Joanne Liu moved to the United States in 1985. She began playing poker in 1996 at San Jose's Bay 101 casino.
Since then, she has won millions in major tournaments. She has made two World Poker Tour final tables, finishing fourth in the 2005 Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic, and second to Ted Forrest in the 2007 Bay 101 Shooting Star championship event. She also took first in the fourth WPT Ladies Night invitational.
