Olivier Busquet Eliminated in Lee ChildsDec 19, '10 We didn’t catch the action, but Olivier Busquet was no longer in his seat, prompting us to investigate. $10,000 Main Event - Day 2B - Level 7 (Hr. 2)Jul 09, '08 Players are going on an extended 30-minute break as tournament officials now take all the 25 chips off the tables. Day 2B Players Left: 1,701 Big Hands and Storylines: Don’t Mess with the Force Play was folded around the table to the small blind, where Leif Force raised to 2300. The player in the big blind sensed a steal, so he reraised to 7000. Force then decided to prove he was serious, and made a second raise, this to 17,300. It was going to cost the big blind another 10,300 to call, with a stack of about 30,000. He elected to fold, but accidently flashed the 7 in the process. “I can beat that,” Force told him, mucking his hand. Lee uses straight flush to increase stack Late in the level Bernard Lee raised from under the gun with pocket tens and the big blind reraised all in for 20,000 more. Lee called and was up against A-K. The board came K-10-4-9-7 and Lee took the pot. Later he got involved in a pot with J7. The flop came 8-8-7 with the 8 and Lee called a 1,000 bet. He called another bet when the T came on the turn, and then the 9 came on the river, giving him a straight flush. Lee made a 2,100 bet and got a call and the pot. At the break Lee was up to 70,000 chips. Ng Adds to Chip Count Evelyn Ng was in the small blind and called a raise from a player in late position. The flop came 1055, and after Ng checked, she called a 5000 bet. Both players checked when the 2 fell on the river, then Ng led out for another 5000 when the 2 double-paired the board on the river. Her opponent called, but trailed with his 66, and Ng was holding 77. Preflop, Men Nguyen made a reraise of 12,000 and was called. Then on a J76 flop he check-raised all in for about 40,000. He called an his opponent flipped over two kings. "I'm freerolling. Give me two diamonds," Nguyen announced before flipping over a pair of kings with the K. But the turn was a heart, chopping the roughly 120,000-chip pot. Childs Takes a Hit Nenad Medic raised to 1800 from the cut-off and Lee Childs called from the big blind. The flop came Q97 and after Childs checked Medic checked behind him. The 5 came on the turn and Childs stabbed at the pot with a 2500 bet. Medic made the call. The 10 was the river card and Childs checked. Medic then moved out 5000, and Childs reluctantly made the call. Medic showed Q8 for top pair, and Childs mucked. He lost almost half his stack in the hand, now with 11,800 in front of him. Nedic has been joined at the table by fellow Canadian Isabelle Mercier. Matusow Takes Small Pot Mike Matusow was in the big blind, after checked after the player in the cut-off limped for 600. The flop came 742and both players checked. The 3 came on the turn and Matusow bet 1500, which drew a call. The 6 came on the river and Matusow bet 2400. His opponent folded and Matusow improved to about 55,000 in chips. 83 Players RemainJul 14, '07 There are 83 players remaining in the field and judging by the recent eliminations, no one is safe. The players are in level 21 now and the blinds are $12,000-$24,000 with a $3,000 ante.Bird No Longer With Us Bill Edler raised to $70,000 from early position and Lee Childs reraised to $205,000. John Bird came over the top all in for $505,000 and Edler threw his cards in the muck. Childs made the call and had Bird covered. Bird showed K K and Childs was holding A A. The board came 9 6 5 2 2 and Childs took down the massive pot and Bird was sent to the rail. Feel the Rush Lee Watkinson has been on an absolute tear in the last hour, chipping up to $4,600,000 and claiming the number two spot on the leaderboard. Watkinson's quiet and humble demeanor often keeps him out of the spotlight but the players at his table almost always find out the hard way how dangerous he can really be. Jared Hamby raised to $75,000 from late position and was reraised by Lee Watkinson to $200,000 from the small blind. Hamby reraised all in and Watkinson took no time in making the call. Hamby had pushed for a little more than $500,000 and showed the table K Q. Watkinson had called with A Q. The flop came 8 7 3 and Hamby started getting his chips in order to hand them over to Watkinson. The turn was the 6 and needing only a king to stay alive, Hamby had all but admitted defeat. The J hit on the river and Watkinson won the hand with ace high. The very next hand as Watkinson was stacking his chips in racks to be colored up, Jeff Weiss limped into the pot for $24,000. The other eight players at the table expressed their surprise at his bet, bewildered by the concept. One player said aloud, "It's about time someone limped. That's the first bet that wasn't a raise in an hour." Watkinson called the limp from the button and the player in the small blind folded. "You have no idea how bad those cards were to fold there," said the player in seat eight. The player in seat nine checked his option and three players saw a flop of K 6 5. Weiss bet out $90,000 and Watkinson raised him to $300,000. The player in seat nine folded and Weiss made the call. The turn was the 5 and Weiss checked. Watkinson bet out $425,000 and Weiss again made the call. The river was the 7 and Weiss led out with a bet of $350,000. Watkinson thought for only a moment before looking at the dealer and declaring that he was all in. Weiss went deep into the tank, trying to figure out what Watkinson was doing. Weiss eventually looked at Watkinson and said, "I call." Watkinson flipped over 6 6 for the flopped set and Weiss mucked his hand high enough to only show the bottom card, the A. Weiss was eliminated and Watkinson had a whole new pile of chips to rack up. Player Tags: Lee Watkinson, Jared Hamby, Jeff Weiss, John Bird, Lee Childs Hour TwoJul 17, '07 Alex Kravchenko Very ActiveAlex Kravchenko has been very active with his shortstack. He has opened every pot that has been folded to him. Most of the raises have been all in, unfortunately for his the few that have not have been picked off by larger stacks. Lee Childs Eliminated 7th ($705,209) It is folded to Childs in the small blind, and he raises to $480,000 more. Jerry Yang waits for the count on Childs, then moves all in. Childs stands up, back to the table as he contimplates his decision. He returns to his chair, with his dwindling chip stack reflected in the ruby red glasses atop his black hat. Yang is statueque as Childs thinks, hand covering his face. A look of contentment spreds across Childs' face as he seems to make his decision . He announces "I call" and immeditily the crowd in on its feet. Child's pumps both his fists and he realizes his KJ, has Yang's J8 dominated. Things look better on the flop as it comes 644 and Childs is in prime position to double up. Things take a drastic turn for him however, when the turn rolls off one of the sickest cards in the deck, the 8. Now Yang takes the lead, but Childs still has a king or club to take the pot back. His journey ends when the river brings the 9, and he is sent to the rail in 7th place for a $705,209 payday. Yang now has almost half the chips in play. Player Tags: Alexander Kravchenko, Jerry Yang, Lee Childs Hour OneJul 17, '07 Gooooooooaaalllllll! Hilm and Yang clashed again a few hands later, but this battle woud be their last. On a board of K J 5 2 Jerry Yang bet $4 million and Hilm moved all in. Yang made the call and flipped over A K. Hilm showed 8 5 and the crowd reacted with a mix of glee, dissappointment from the Denmark contingent, and excitment. The river brought the 6and Hilm was eliminated in ninth place. He played an aggressive game early, but Yang was just as aggressive, and the Scandanavian player went from the largest chip stack at the start of the day, to the first player to be eliminated. He will take home $525,934 in prize money as a consolation prize though. Yang is now the overwhelming chip leader and he has a third of the chips in play with over $44 million.
