Razor-thin Margin at the Top
Players have returned from dinner and the cards are in the air. Yesterday’s shortened day will also have an impact on today’s field. Day 1A had to be halted nearly two hours prior to the scheduled conclusion of the day due to the frenetic pace of bustouts occurring throughout the Amazon Room. To ensure that the two starting flights play the same amount of poker before combining tomorrow afternoon, tonight’s group of players will bag their chips 12 minutes into level nine, the same point at which play ended last night. That is, of course, unless they happen to play down to 175 players before then, at which point they will cease play immediately so as not to reach the money bubble before day 2. Still following along? Of course you are.
The best bets to make it through to day 2 include chip leader Chris Savage from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, whose 70,500 chips put him nearly 6 times above the average stack. John Phan, only 5,000 chips behind Savage, is looking to add a bracelet after second place finishes in both 2006 and 2007. And impossible to overlook is Barry Greenstein, who has amassed a chip stack that will likely make him one of the most dangerous players in the post-dinner segment of today’s event.
