Herbert Tapscott Wins Event no. 8 ($264,400)Jun 04, '12 Level: 31 Blinds: 50,000-100,000 Herbert Tapscott Wins Event no. 8 ($264,400) Herbert Tapscott was knocked down to just 2 big blinds during Level 27 where found a key triple up through John Racener and Thayer Rasmussen to stay alive. Tapscott touched the chip lead for a minute in Level 28 after eliminating John Racener in 6th place ($41,121). Gavin Griffin quickly took control of the table during Level 28, ending the level with a dominating lead over the field of more than 3:1 over second place. Griffin went on to personally bust Thayer Rasmussen in 7th place ($32,278), Michael Keist 5th ($54,855) and Can Kim Hua in 4th place ($73,406) . Tapscott took over the chip lead in Level 29, eliminating Ashly Butler in 3rd place ($102,373) to take a roughly 1.5:1 chip lead going into heads-up play with 2.6 million to Griffin’s 1.7 million. On the final hand of the night, Gavin griffin raised to 100,000 from the button and Herbert Tapscott called from the big blind. The flop came AQ8, Griffin moved all in for his last 65,000 and Tapscott called. Griffin showed A632 for top pair with the nut low draw against Tapscott’s middle pair and a draw with Q1074. The turn and river were the 9 and the J, giving Tapscott a straight to the queen to win the pot and eliminate Gavin Griffin in 2nd place ($163,625). Gavin Griffin limped into the pot for 80,000 on the button, Herbert Tapscott raised to 160,000 in the small blind, Ashly Butler called all in for 150,000 from the big blind and Griffin called the raise. With Butler all in for his tournament life, the other two players checked through the river on a board of Q102QA. Short Stacks Stay Alive Despite losing Raymond Davis in 9th place ($24,111), the remaining short stacks seemed to do a good job at picking their spots this level and scoring some much needed double ups to stay alive. John Racener nearly doubled through chipleader Gavin Griffin towards the middle of the level after scooping a pot with a pair of aces and the nut low, putting him up to almost 600,000. Herbert Tapscott found a double up and then some after being knocked down to under 2 big blinds this past level. In a key pot against John Racener and Thayer Rasmussen towards the end of the level, Tapscott found a triple up with wheel which put him back at nearly 7 big blinds to stay alive.
