Theo Tran Smells Weakness... Loses Chips, Even Though He's Right
Aug 24, '08
Jonathan McGowan raised to 700 in early position and was called by Jacob Soleimani on the button and Theo Tran in the small blind.
Everyone checked the flop of A64 and then Tran led out for 1,300 when the 6 hit the turn. The river was the 10 and Tran checked. McGowan checked, and Soleimani bet 4,500.
Tran leaned in to see Soleimani's stack, then looked to his left to see McGowan's chips. After a bit of thought, and a lot of staring, Tran called the river bet. McGowan then though about raising to 12,000 before eventually mucking his hand, stating that he was probably folding the best hand.
Tran immediately confirmed that he did fold the best hand, despite seeing any cards. Soleimani turned over pocket fives, and Tran replied, "I knew you were weak," before mucking his 42.
McGowan then cried out, "I had pocket jacks," to which Tran stated, "I knew if I called, that you couldn't."
