Robert Mizrachi raises under the gun to 46,000, John Hoang reraises from middle position to 166,000, John Celii calls from the button, and Mizrachi calls.
The flop comes 984, and Mizrachi quickly checks. Hoang moves all in for 269,000, and Celii goes into the tank for about five minutes, studying both of his opponents.
Celii eventually folds, and Mizrachi immediately calls, showing 88 for a set of eights. Hoang shows KK for an overpair, and he'll need to improve to stay alive. Celii says he folded pocket queens.
The turn is the 5, the river is the Q, and Robert Mizrachi wins the pot with his set of eights, building his stack to about 1.83 million. John Hoang is eliminated in 33rd place, earning $65,955.
If Celii had stayed in the pot, he would have won with the queen on the river. But if he flat called, he probably would have been reraised by Mizrachi, which would have put him in a tough spot.
After the hand, Kenny Tran told Mizrachi, "I knew you had a monster. The flop came out, and I've never seen you check so fast in my life." A few people continued to talk about how Hoang played the hand, but Mizrachi said with a smile, "To tell you the truth, I love the way he played it. I got his chips, and he got what would have been the best hand to fold."
