Huge Pot in Stud 8/ob
Feb 16, '09
Stud Eight or Better
A huge five-handed pot just went down involving Chris Reslock, Matt Graham, David Benyamine, Layne Flack and another player.
Despite leading the betting earlier in the hand, Reslock, showing a board of 3610Q, had to fold on seventh street after seemingly missing some kind of straight/ flush draw combination.
Benyamine showed down A4(7443)8 for trip fours with an 8-7 low. The hand normally has scooping potential but lost both halves of the pot when Flack showed KK(10K97)A for higher trips. Graham showed 43(J582)2 for an 8-5 low.

Eliminations: Haralabos Voulgaris, Julian Gardner, Jordan Morgan, Victoria Coren, Joe Beevers
Big Hands:
Big-Stacked Crain Takes Huge Hit
Eric Crain was sitting comfortably toward the top of the leaderboard with 350,000 in chips when a raise-fest led to him putting in more than 100,000 to call Eric Bremond's all in. Crain's AK was in bad shape against Bremond's AA. The flop left Crain dead to running cards - coming out JJ9. The 8 turn left Crain drawing dead and the J fell on the river to give Bremond a full house and the pot. After the double up, Bremond (220,000) was nearly even in chips with Crain (225,000).
Seidel Picks Up Jacks, Doubles
Erik Seidel moved all in before the flop and was called by his opponent in seat 6. Seidel turned over JJ while his opponent showed AJ. The board ran KK3K7, giving Seidel the pot to double up to around 80,000.
A Turn For The Worse
With the board showing J7A5, the player in seat 3 fired a medium sized bet into the pot. Brandon Adams came over the top for 30,000 total. Seat 3 announced he was all in and Adams instantly called. Seat 3 showed 55 for a set on the turn and thought he was ahead. It took him a while to see that Adams had flipped over 77 for a better set on the flop. The river was the 6 and seat 3 was eliminated. Adams collected the huge pot and saw his chip count soar to 340,000 - good enough to crack the top 10.
Rousso Loves Cowboys
The player in seat 3 raised 3,600 preflop from middle position. Action folded to Vanessa Rousso in the big blind, who made the call. The flop came KK4 and both players checked. The 8 came on the turn and both players checked again. The passive play ended on the river as the A fell and Rousso fired 5,000. Seat 3 reached for his orange 5,000 chip and announced A-J just as he threw the chip into the middle. Rousso turned over K6 for trip kings on the flop. She raked the pot and climbed to 73,000.
Steve Zolotow Doubles Again
The player in seat 6 raised preflop and Steve Zolotow moved all in for roughly 25,000 more. After a moment of thought, seat 6 made the call. Zolotow showed 1010 and seat 6 showed AQ. The board came KJ3K5 and Zolotow doubled to 50,000.
On the turn, Zolotow told the dealer, "Pleaes, no trips," as he snagged the "lucky iPod" from Erik Seidel. After the hand he returned to Seidel and said that he might invest in one of those iPods.
Reslock Doubles
On a flop of 1053 Chris Reslock got all in against one player. His opponent showed Q10 for top pair but Reslock had A10 for top pair with a better kicker. The turn and river were the 8 and the 3 adn Reslock doubled to over 50,000.
Leonidas Runs Into Big Slick
Toto Leonidas raised from the button to 4,200. The player in the big blind called and checked the flop of AJ2. Leonidas bet 5,000 and the big blind called. The 4 fell on the turn and the big blind led out with a bet of 10,000. Leonidas called and the river brought the 8. The big blind fired 10,000 again and Leonidas again called. Seat 9 showed AK and Leonidas mucked, dropping to 74,000 in chips.
This Is How Corkins Plays The Flush Draw
Hoyt Corkins limped under the gun and Mark Vos limped as well. The cutoff, the button and the blinds also jumped in. The flop came 1033. The small blind let out with a bet of 3,300 and only Corkins made the call. The turn was the 6 and the small blind bet out 4,500. Corkins again called and the river brought the 7. The small blind slowed down and checked. Corkins fired out 10,000 and the small blind made the call. Corkins showed 86 for the flush and the small blind mucked his hand. Corkins had 107,000 after the hand.
Boeken Fills Up On River
The player on the button raised to 3,000 and Noah Boeken called from the small blind. The flop came 986 and both players checked. The turn was the 6 and again both players checked. The river was the 7 and both players checked again. Boeken showed 77 for a full house and raked the pot. He had 56,000 after the hand.

Hold’em
Good Start For Forrest
Erick Lindgren raised from middle position and action folded around to Ted Forrest in the big blind who made the call. The flop was J1010 and Forrest check-called a bet from Lindgren. The turn was the 7. Again Forrest checked and Lindgren bet. Forrest then raised and Lindgren called. Forrest bet the 4 river and Lindgren made the call. Forrest showed down KJ and took down a nice sized pot. Forrest is now just below the starting stack of 100,000. Lindgren is among the chip leaders with 200,000.
Horse Does Start With An “H”
Having been questioned about the situation by a few players, Jack Effel brought up the issue of whether the first game of each day should be hold’em or, instead, a game chosen by random draw. Effel asked for a show of hands from those who were in favor of a random game to start off each day. His request was met by only a meager show of hands, indicative more perhaps of the players ambivalence toward the situation than any real opinion. With such a lackluster show of hands, it appears that hold’em will be the game to start each of the days of this tournament. Mickey Appleman said it best, “Why complicate things?”
Omaha/8b
Fitoussi Gets Cut Out
Hasan Habib limped from early position and was joined on the flop by David Singer, Patrick Bueno, Michael Binger, and Bruno Fitoussi. The flop came AK2. Fitoussi checked, Habib bet, Singer and Bueno folded, Binger raised, and Fitoussi and Habib called. On the J turn, Fitoussi checked, Habib bet, Binger raised again, and Fitoussi and Habib called. The river was the 6. Again Fitoussi checked, Habib bet, and Binger and Fitoussi called. Habib showed A422 for the nut flush while Binger tabled 10543 for the nut low. Fitoussi showed... nothing. He mucked his hand quietly and shuffled his remaining 40,000 in chips. Habib has a more stable 80,000, and Binger has an even better 115,000.

“I Can’t Believe I Laid It Down!”
With boards reading:
Eli Elezra: Q10K2
Annie Duke: 3896
Elezra after leading out on 5th street, checked his hand on 6th street. Duke bet and Elezra went into the tank. After about 90 seconds of thinking, he flipped his upcards over and the conceded the pot to Duke. Apparently Elezra wasn’t too crushed by the lost pot, as he joked, “I can’t believe I laid that down. Two fours!” Elezra has about 85,000. Even with that pot Duke finds herself with only 30,000 in chips.

Kaplan and Corkins Split Galfond’s Chips
Corkins: 7452
Kaplan: JQ104
Galfond: AK68
Hoyt Corkins completed with the 7 up, Gabe Kaplan called with the J, Phil Galfond raised with an A, and the two others called. Galfond led into his two elder statesmen on 4th street and was called by both. 5th street and 6th street shared the same action: Galfond checked, Corkins bet, and Kaplan and Galfond both called. Corkins bet 7th street and was raised by Kaplan, this put Galfond in a difficult position and he was forced to lay down his hand. A bit overeager, Kaplan flipped over his hand before Corkins made his decision. Corkins saw his opponent’s JJT for a full house and made the call, showing A43 for a wheel. Corkins took down half of the pot, but was unlucky not to scoop it. After the hand, Corkins had 45,000, Kaplan 85,000, and Galfond 95,000.

Brunson mucked his hand and conceded Chen the medium-size pot. "It's looking bleak," said Brunon after the hand to Abe Mosseri, who had come over to check on Doyle's stack. Doyle held under 300,000 after the hand.
Omaha 8OB
Odd Man Out
On a flop of A107 Mike Wattel bet 10,000 and both Chris Reslock and Andy Bloch made the call. The turn was dealt A and Reslock bet 20,000. Both opponents made the call and the 6 fell on the river. Reslock led out for 20,000 once again and both Bloch and Wattel made the call. Their cards:
Wattel: JJ32
Reslock: A782
Bloch: muck
Reslock took the high and Wattel the low. Bloch was the odd man out.

Doyle vs. Ivey
Doyle Brunson had A4Q2 exposed against Phil Ivey's QJ87. Bets and raises on every single street had built a nice pot worth more than 150,000 on seventh street when Ivey bet and Doyle raised. Ivey thought for a moment and then mucked his hand. The pot put Brunson back above the 300,000 mark, whil Ivey is now down to about 100,000.

Ace-High No Good For Mackey
James “mig.com” Mackey, who has found quite a bit of success in mixed events this year, hit a bit of a road block in Alexander Kostritsyn in the last level. Kostritsyn raised to 12,000 on the button and Mackey upped it to 18,000 in the big blind. Kostritsyn called. On a flop of KJ6, Mackey bet and the young Russian called. Mackey bet and Kostritsyn called again on the 5 turn. Action halted on the river when both players checked the 6. Mackey showed A3 for ace-high and was beaten by Kostritsyn’s pair of jacks with J10. The hand boosted Kostritsyn to 180,000.
Omaha/8b
Big Stacks Tangle
The holders of two of the biggest stacks of the tournament, Phil Ivey and Bill Chen, played an Omaha eight-or-better pot in the last round that resulted in a scoop for one of the two. Ivey raised from early position and it folded around to Chen in the big blind. Chen made the call and the flop came off 865. Chen check-raised Ivey on the flop and Ivey made the call. Chen bet the 2 turn and Ivey made another call. Both players checked the 4 river and Chen showed QQ74 for a straight and a 7-low. Ivey rapped the table and Chen raked in a pot to move to 420,000 in chips. Ivey is not to be pitied though, as he ended the level with 500,000.

From Russia With Low
Ralph Perry: 2J3Q
Justin Bonomo: A28J
Michael Joseph completed with the 3 showing on third street, Perry raised, and Bonomo made it 18,000. Both Joseph and Perry called. On fourth street, Bonomo bet out with A2 showing, Michael, having drawn a Q, folded, and Perry called despite drawing a jack. On fifth and sixth streets, Bonomo bet and Perry called. Both players checked the river and Bonomo tabled (3)(2)(J). Perry surveyed Bonomo’s cards very closely, then scrutinized his own, before finally revealing (A)(5)(5) for a J-5 low, narrowly edging out Bonomo’s J-8 low.
The pot gave Perry a stack of 245,000. Bonomo is hovering near the 300,000 chip mark.

Marcel Luske Eliminates Steve Sung
Steve Sung, desperately short-stacked, got his chips all-in against Marcel Luske. The news was bad for Sung when Luske showed (A)(Q)10JK3 for the broadway straight. Sung had a flush draw though – (9)(5)KQ62. Sung looked at his final card and then stood up and quickly left the table. After winning the pot Luske was up to 290,000.
James Mackey Eliminates Doug Ganger
Doug Ganger: 2K75
James Mackey: A738
Mickey Appleman: K4108
With only a few thousand chips left, Ganger brought in with his deuce and found himself all-in on third street. Mackey bet every street on the hand and Appleman called him down all the way until seventh street where he folded. Mackey showed (A)(10)(9) and that was good enough to take down the pot and eliminate Ganger. After some early trouble in the level, Mackey has bounced back to 250,000.

Looking Bleak for Doyle
With 855K exposed during razz Doyle Brunson bet 25,000 on seventh street against Bill Chen, who had 5K99 face up. Chen made the call and then turned over 764 in the hole.

Seed and Reslock Tangle
Huck Seed bet 3,000 on a Q107 board and was called by Chris Reslock. The turn brought the 6 and both players checked, bringing the 8 on the river. Seed bet 6,000 and Reslock made the call. Seed showed KJ97 for a rivered straight, but Reslock showed A5K9 for the 8-low and half of the pot.
"I guess I should've bet on the turn," Seed said after the hand.
Harman Takes a Big Pot
Jennifer Harman bet 3,000 and was called by 3 players on a flop of J74. She bet out 6,000 out the 10 turn and was called by the player in seat 6 only. The Q fell on the river and seat 6 bet out 6,000, only to be raised to 12,000 by Harman. He called and saw the bad news. Harman showed A-K-10-10 for the broadway straight and her opponent mucked.
Harman has climbed to around 80,000 in chips.
Boyd Gets Rivered, Eliminated Later in Level
Dutch Boyd bet 6,000 on a board of 9547 and the player in seat 3 raised to 12,000. Not intimidated, Boyd reraised to 18,000 and seat 3 called. The river was the K and Boyd called his opponent's bet and they showed down. Boyd showed AA22, but saw that he had been rivered by seat 3's A2Q9. Seat 3 took the high and Boyd got just half of the low. He was eliminated later in the level.
Brunson Misses
Doyle Brunson check-called his opponent every step of the way on a AK7910 board. When his opponent bet on the river Brunson mucked, having apparently missed his draw. Brunson still had around 96,000 in chips.
Chiu Flushes Down the Competition
On a board of 1094A10, David Chiu bet 6,000 and got one caller. "Flush," Chiu said and his opponent quickly mucked. The win put Chiu's stack around 70,000.
The Mouth?
Yes, he's still in the tournament. He has just been speaking more quietly. He's short with around 20,000 in chips

Minh Ly Wins a Big Pot off of Jordan Rich and Carlos Mortensen
Carlos Mortensen led with a pair of fours on fourth street and bet the max (400), Jordan Rich and Minh Ly called. Mortensen continued to bet on every round except seventh street where Minh Ly bet out first with a pair of nines showing. Both Rich and Mortensen made the call.

Mortensen: 4435-4-X-X
Rich: A485-X-X-X

Chris Reslock Wins a Pot, Up Over 30,000 In Chips
Steve Billirakis brings it in for 50 with 2 and Amnon Filippi completed the bet to 200 with A. Shannon Elizabeth called the 200 completion with the 7 and defending champion Chris Reslock raised to 400 with the 6 . Seat 5 called the 400 raise cold with the 4 and Bilirakis folded. Four players made it past the door card.

Elizabeth: 79--Fold
